The biggest change for 2017 for Audi's two-door compacts? The decision to give the S5 a boost over the S4 in terms of engine output. With a twinscroll turbo 3.0-liter V6, the S5 leaps to 354 horsepower, a 21-pony increase over the 333 horses available from the S4. It's not too shocking to give a coupe a leg-up over an equivalent sedan, as the market for the S5 tends to skew more towards sports car fans, but it's the first time Audi has made this aggressive of a move in differentiating the vehicle from the S4.

I have always liked the Audi interiors. Personally, I feel a lot of other auto makers take styling cues from Audi secretly. Fit and finish in Audi's are usually above par compared to the like..

Not digging the exterior styling all that much. Way too may creases and lines on the hood and side of the car. It needs a good clean up.

The interior is fantastic looking. The volume dial seems a little out of place.

can you get it without that 'tablet' stuck in the middle top of the dash?

looks like an afterthought. I hate that style....at least make it retractable into the dash.

You mean like the A3? But it still sticks up when you turn on the ignition (I am assuming that it cannot be retracted when the car is running).

I feel like with current automotive trends, we are stuck in the "smart phone" or "app" age, just like in the 50's/early 60's we had the "jet age" styling.

Gotta make our screens look like the latest I-pad tablet, make sure the infotainment system can recommend restaurants to us, give us movie times, and update our face book status. Its just that you can do all that stuff in a much easier fashion with your phone. Plus with how often tech changes and how long cars last now days, you end up with a dated system in your dash with windows 3.1 style graphics after just a few years.

I guess all of this is great for driving new car demand, but honestly I'd much rather just get in the car, put on some music, and drive, not have to fiddle with an overly complex system that doesn't even have a volume ****.

I hate it too, but in all honestly I had an A6 as a loaner car that had the retractable tablet and I never retracted it when I turned off the car. It is always needed so why retract it? I guess Audi has noticed that from the many owners with A6's/A7's and has just chosen to save the money instead. I still prefer it integrated into the dash like my current model.

Re: the new styling, as a '15 S5 owner I don't like the front end, and the hood strakes are overkill, but I think they've done a nice job making the sides more aggressive. Tough to follow up on an already great design. The fact that I can still go out to the garage and admire an 8 year-old design says something.

Re: the fact that there was no earlier thread on the new A5/S5 design, everyone is into SUVs these days. Coupes are not on their radar. Even the Infiniti Q60 barely created a thread and it is a lot more revolutionary than the A5/S5. I haven't seen much chatter on the MB C-Class Coupe either. They are becoming an endangered species.

it's not needed when the ignition is off........looks much cleaner retracted.

How often do you sit in your car with the ignition off? You would have to be peeking in the window upon approach to see how nice and smooth that dash line looks.

1. most cars sit static a lot more than being "in-use".
2. I detail my cars a lot and don't care to have perched like that when not in use.

bonus-
3. I think it looks cheap, ugly, and like an afterthought...the cheapest Mercedes CLA has it the same way.

I love Lexus GS' take on this....

....and Tesla's
