Default Manifold Dichotomy...

New owner of an HS Premium. Very Happy.

Question: The manifold on almost all of the HS models looks like a rusty manifold off a barn find 1938 Hupmobile.

Will high temp paint work? Has anyone done this? (Photos Please)

Also, the deck behind the rear seats are a matching light grey matching the seats. The reflection against the back window cuts the view in half. Again, any solutions regarding this?

I agree with you. Under the hood, you have a real nice engine cover, but what take up most of the real estate is that rusty manifold right there front and center.

If you knew how much that thing costs, you'll use maximum caution as you try to beautify it.

But if you try, maybe the Rustoleum 2000 deg. F flat black might work. Post pictures.

Also for the rear view out the window, I took out my headrests. If I need to carry someone in the back seat, I just put the headrest back in. It helps with the view out backwards, and that reflection.

Airman thanks for the fast response. I will try that rust oleum and post pics.

The back seat head rests aren't the problem. It's the light grey rear deck fabric reflecting against back window, the glare of the fabric makes the view out the rear almost opaque. Seems like a bad design.

Airman, thanks for the tip. Used the 2000 degree Rustoleum. Primer base, then flat black. Big improvement.

^^^ Big improvement! Did you sand it down first to remove any superficial rust?

Oh, and just so you know, now that you're done touching it, that part is very expensive:

over a grand!

Fo once, it's cheaper here in Canada. Covert to USD, and this is a reasonable $500

Yes Corrado, did prep by putting solvent on ScotchBrite pad, then steel wool until smooth. Then I took a rag with isopropyl alcohol to remove oils and remaining particles. Masked, then followed directions on primer and paint. After a week. Still looks good.

Brings back memories

I had a white one too. A '91. Here's a pic of a pic from over ten years ago (remember back then, we actually printed photos! )

BTW, going back on topic, thanks for the prep picture/post above.
