Throttle Cable Bracket Sub-Assembly
1995 - 2000 LS400's employ a U-shaped rubber bushing that nestles between the right front engine cover bracket sub-assembly (mounted atop intake manifold) and throttle cable ferrule which isolates and dampens vibration.
The existing rubber grommet was rock hard, brittle and quite loose in the bracket's U-channel.
After 17 years of engine heat, mother nature and father time, the grommet was expired..
However, replacement grommet is not sold separately, but only as part of the bracket sub-assembly P.N. 78024-50020 $30-40 including tax.
Tools required;
10 mm socket with extension for engine cover nuts and screws ;
12mm socket and extension for the two intake manifold washer-head nuts (use a torque wrench when retightening!)
14mm open-end wrench for the Front cable ferrule adjusting nut;
Pliers to hold the ferrule in place while loosening and retightening the front cable adjustment nut.
Motorcycle thottle cable oil;
Optional; Shin-Etsu grease to coat the new rubber grommet.
Bracket sub-assembly is 78024 in Lexus parts diagram
Top view depicting seperation of rubber grommet from bracket sub-assembly. Only front nut required loosening (while lightly applying grip with a pliers on the ferrule on other side of bracket thereby preventing wrenching of cable from turning) This avoids changing throttle cable adjustment setting...however it seemed slightly taughter once the new assembly was installed. Be sure to hold the ferrule in place while retightening to avoid ripping the grommet from the new bracket.
New bracket sub-assembly. The new grommet is very pliable.
The ribbon on the package; apply Shin Etsu grease/preservative to the rubber grommet ...
