Default Gas Cap

Hi fellow members. My Gas Cap doesn't close flush to the body. What adjustment can I make.

Thank you.
Chris....From OZ.

Lesly, do you mean the gas cap door, rather than just the cap?

Hi, yes the Gas Cap Door. When closed , the back part sticks out about 1/4," instead of being flush to the body.

It looks like the locking mechanism on the body has a (plastic) nut on it that you might could loosen and then attempt to push it back farther into the gas filling recess. But I haven't tried it.

....it's been some years back, but Lexus did have an issue with the gas cap mechanism, the plastic piece inside the door is the culprit. I don't know the part # off hand, but it should be easy to find & hopefully it's still available

It sounds like that link you listed DashingDar refers to a problem with the door not latching or closing.

I think that Lesly is saying that his door will latch but it sits proud of the side after it is latched. If I understand both situations, they are different problems.

...good search Dash, this is the thread that discusses the issue. I have the same issue & planned on doing the fix awhile back, but never got around to it.

I had this problem and one of the two screws were missing. See two screws on the left side of the gas door. When I installed the second screw, it made the door flush again.

Hi Bgw 70, when you say one of the screws were missing, did it have two screws to begin with & one fell out, or did you drill & fit another one. I only have the bottom screw. No hole where your top screw is.

hey Chris,
mine had two holes and I thought a screw was missing...when I removed the single screw I saw a place on the metal part for a nut. I went to my Lexus dealer and he gave me a screw and I provided the nut. Hope this helps.

No, I understood, I think (depending on which "his" you are referring to ). Lesly can close his door but it doesn't sit flush. However, in the link, it sounded like the owners were not able close their doors (wouldn't latch) and were banging on it to get it to close. Maybe I misunderstood them and the door just didn't close flush but still latched?
