The McLaren P1 and Ferrari the Ferrari are RWD. You don't need AWD, it adds weight and complexity. Plus AWD cars are more likely to tear up drivetrain parts because you basically have to do a 6,000rpm clutch dump to get a good launch that doesn't bog the engine.

I kind of wish they'd offer both the Corvette in it's FR layout, and add higher spec mid-engine (MR) sports car to the stable to combat the Ford GT, 488 GTB, R8. Heck call it the Corvair. Those iirc were RR, and MRC and modern suspension would help rid of the stigma Corvair's had with bad handling highlighted in the book Unsafe At Any Speed. Or just go with Chevrolet 'Emperor' cause that sounds bad***!

^ Nah, Corvair isn't the right name. The Corvair was an economy car, kind of Chevrolet's interpretation of the VW Beetle and Bus.
Call it the "Louis Chevrolet", after the guy who founded the company. He was big into auto racing back in the day, but about the only success he had was not getting himself killed doing it.

I was reading a bit about Corvette history, and if Zora Arkus-Duntov(lead engineer for the Corvette from 1955 to the early 70's) had his way, the 1963 C2 Corvette would have been mid-engined. Ultimately Bill Mitchell had a lot more political clout(head of GM styling) had his way and the 1963 Corvette was conventional front engine/rwd, but it was still innovative with independent rear suspension and mechanical fuel injection, very cutting edge technologies for the early 1960's.
I kind of wish Duntov had his way and they built a mid-engined 1963 Corvette. Think about it, a mid engine production car 4 years before Lamborghini gave us the Miura. I mean the Miura stood the world on its head with its radical design, kind of crazy to think that a stodgy/conservative corporation like GM seriously considered/almost approved a mid engine performance road car in the late 1950's. Then again its not surprising that GM canned the idea in favor of a more conventional/less costly design.
