For all those who have purchased mud guard flaps. Is there a pro to having them? Like less dirt being flung onto the car. I know it prevents tiny gravel and rocks from chipping the paint to certain point, but I want to make sure that Im not buying them for aesthetic purposes! LOL

In light rain, or just wet roads, they keep the side of my car cleaner.

Default Mud Flaps.

So far, I only have them on the front wheels and they really do keep the debris off the sides of the car and likely prevent rock chips. Still contemplating if I should drill the necessary holes to mount the rear flaps.

your drilling into plastic, not metal. It's pretty simple.

Finally got around to doing this before it got too cold.

The $300 OEM Japanese mud guards are nice but a little too rich for me, and so I picked up this set of aftermarket mud guards off ebay for $25. They come in black(bare unpainted PP plastic), and fits almost perfectly. I was originally going to put them on as-is, but decided to try to get them painted to match the body color(Liquid Platinum). Went to a local automotive paint stores and picked up their Adhesion Promoter($12), Primer($12) and custom spray paint paint matched to the car($25).

Sanded them down with Scotch Brite, washed and dried, sprayed the adhesion promoter, 3 coats of primer, then wet sanded with some 800grits, and finally, 3 coats of paint.

I'd say they came out pretty well, and the color matches the body almost perfectly. The paint supposedly includes clear coat already, but I think I'm going to put on some additional clear as insurance.

Yes, all the supplies combined weren't exactly cheap, but I believe in doing it properly the first and only time(hopefully), or not bothering with it at all. PP plastic is known to be difficult material, but I think the adhesion promoter really works as I tried to scratch a bit off paint off the back portion and the paint didn't peel.

Looks good so far. Post some pics once you get it cleared and installed so we can see the overall look.

Fronts done. Rears going to wait because I put the floor jack in the shed for winter already. I'm not too worried about the rear anyways. It's mainly the doors that get trashed when driving through slush.

Not bad for $25 mud guards(wish paint hadn't cost $50).. but I'm satisfied with how they turned out.

Definitely helps keep the dirt off a little even when you have a fat 275 tire on the rear.. lol
