Default Putting the 460 in LS 460...

Guys - I asked a question a while back, with no real response. And that's OK. I can answer it myself if I just get off my dead lazy you know what and tear off all the engine covers. I'll circle back to that topic.

But look ... our LS 460's have 385 hp (give or take a couple I guess). There are NOx kits that generate various hp gains, depending on nitrous nozzles, etc. The nozzle size I'm interested in is the +75 hp nozzle. The reason?
  1. It's in the +75 hp range that recommendations for timing retard are mentioned. Sometimes 50 hp. But I've seen it at 75 hp. I am thinking that our 1UR-FSE engines more than likely could take +75 hp, with no timing change, with no problem. It is over 75 hp where timing retard is required.
  2. 385 hp + 75 hp = What? Anybody, anyone, Bueller, Bueller, ... Bueller? If you did the math, it is = 460 hp! That's putting the 460 in LS 460!

It's issues like this that make me realize that I'm OCD. It just seems like the correct thing to do to add a 75 hp shot of nitrous so that it has (what my mind is stuck on) 460 hp. I'm casually investigating this. I just found out I have a buddy with a performance shop (that part I knew), and that he refills NOx bottles at his shop. I didn't know that. I'm going to get with him and see if he has any interest in building a 75 hp kit for my car.

I'm not saying I'm GOING to do this, but if I were to, the system, along with all the normal crap, would include:
  • A window switch (meaning it would only activate at pre-programmed rpms, pending other variables also being met).
  • An electronic full throttle switch.
  • A remote bottle opener (I'm not going to have time to open the bottle when a 5 or 7 series is getting all sporty up beside me).
  • A purge. Knowing me, I would probably purge most of the NOx away!
  • I don't want a gauge, but not sure if it's smart to run without one. I don't want any indication from inside the cabin, of this existing on my vehicle. I would hide the power switch, and window switch unit.
I don't even know that the timing could be changed, since it is ECU programming.

Back to my question that didn't get answered, I've not been able to see a drawing of the fuel rail, just a sketch. The sketch looks kind of like there may be a Schrader valve on it. Which could be used as a fuel source.
I would be purchasing new intake (pre-throttle body), and tapping the new one for the NOx / Fuel jet.

Go ahead. Tell me I'm crazy. I already know I am. But bear in mind, if I proceed with this, it will likely be a slow process. I don't make moves like this quickly. But if it gets overly complex, or will be too "messy" in the cabin, I will put this fantasy project to bed.

The LS 460 is a well engineer and designed automobile that suit most owners. You're not crazy but you are asking questions that the average LS owners have no clues what you are taking about. This would make a great project for you in the future. I'm completely happy with my 460 performance.

By your logic the GS350,IS350,ES330, LX570 etc....should all have HP to match the names. I'm sure no one here would oppose if they came that way. You can spray your LS460 to get to "460" if that's what you want. Let us know how it goes. I like the 4.6 would love to hear one with long tube headers and cutout exhaust.

NO NO NO!!! You want THIS, which will give you 140 hp, and then you can call your car an LS500!!:

There's a great Youtube video of this in action on an LS460. Music to the automotive ears. Google LS460 HKS supercharger for the video

I've seen that video, and that car is fabulous. But that's way too much work for a 1 man show.

"I'm feelin' ya." But the other cool thing with NOx is, I can totally turn it off, and the car will run buttery smooth OEM. Then flip a couple switches and spank a couple bit----s!

With a S/C, that sucker is on all the time, not that that would be a bad thing. But requires a much higher level of modification, including all new fuel mapping. So I doubt it would run as smooth as ours do stock. And like you say, way mo' money.

And as long as it's installed by the dealer, the factory warranty is maintained.
