I have a GS with a 4yr old in a booster and a 10 month in an infant seat. The booster is behind me and I'm 6' 1" and he fits fine. My wife is 5' 3" so the infant seat is behind her and it's fine for her but when I have a taller passenger they are a little cramped. The middle seat is almost useless because the 2 car seats take up most of the space. We also have a RX with the same setup and are able to comfortably fit an average sized adult in the middle seat. I know you're looking for a car but I'd def recommend the RX. Before I bought my car I went into the dealership with both car seats to make sure we could fit comfortably. I think it would be best to test fit the seats along with your 10 year old at the dealer and see what works best for everyone.
My wife is about 5'3", so this usually isn't an issue. .

Where do I find myself a 5'3" wife?
On long rides, my 5'10" wife always complains that the front seat is cramped when we've got the rear-facing car seat behind her. C'mon, it's definitely not the car's fault... is it?

My wife is 5'8". It was more challenging with the rear facing seat but once we were done with that and could get a slim forward facing seat, the front passenger seat can be more than half way back and it's great. The four of us can comfortably take the GS now.
Thanks for all the input.. I will be looking in the rx and the es as well. I would like to get a gx or lx but my fiancee doesn't like big suvs. I bought a brand new Durango rt back in 2012 and it was nothing but problems. Turns out they're all lemons. Never buying American again (except a 68/69 chevelle . Traded that garbage in and got ger a small mazda cx5. We didn't plan for the 3rd kid now needing more room. Hence looking for another car
We used to have an RX and, like others have said, it can easily accommodate your family. We had two car seats and you could still fit an adult in there. We traded it out for a Highlander to get the third row, but an RX would be a good fit I think.
I know this is a Lexus forum so please don't shoot me but if you're going to consider the RX you should also look at the Acura MDX. It's a sportier ride, slightly bigger, and has a 3rd row. My wife has the RX and my good friend recently got the MDX. The MDX definitely has a bigger trunk and I personally find the RX boring to drive but that's subjective.
Whoa I just stepped in here today hoping to research going to a GS from a 2nd gen IS. No height issues for us (I also have a 5'3 wife - well actually 5'2.5) and the rear facing back seat does push up the passenger seat. We have an RX for the "Family car" and there is plenty of room. I second the suggestion above on the MDX- I liked the way it drove, but at the time of purchase last year, three things kept me away:
-Interiors didn't seem to hold up well (compared used MDX's at carmax to same year RX's)
-Didn't think we would use the 3rd row much
-Felt wrong to leave Lexus
-Preferred a hybrid
-Dual screen pissed me off
OK- enough about SUVs, I'm hoping to stop by a dealer this weekend to check out the rear for myself- looks like we're in this one together
You just need to buy slimmer car seats and you'll be okay. Here's an older picture of our rear facing seat (now we're forward facing). The front seat is just over half way back, leaving enough room for my 5'8" wife to ride comfortably. It's the rear facing infant seats that take up the most room.
I have a booster seat for my 3 year old and a baby seat for my 3 month old in my 2013 GS350. There is very little room between the two, maybe a foot.
The other issue is the two outer seats are bucketed down while the middle seat is raised. When we only had one child my wife would sit in the middle to keep the baby company and slide off the middle seat when I took corners unless she braced herself.
Then again, maybe your kids would enjoy that more than my pregnant wife did.
Call me crazy, but I think some of you guys are being too critical of rear seat room in the GS. Having the tunnel or not (RWD vs FWD), having 3 car seats in the back of any car stinks.
