Johnhav430 the PS system will bleed itself. You can expedite the process by simply turning the steering wheel lock to lock left then right and left again several times. It's easier on your car if the front wheels are jacked up but it's not absolutely necessary. The links you provided are fairly dated back when the reservoir sat directly on top of the PS pump. This made it much easier for air to enter the system especially since the older cars had constant PS problems. The LS430 is an improved design and the reservoir feeds the pump through a 5" hose which builds in a bit of safety re air potentially entering the system. I don't recommend it but your res could be bone dry as long as there is still fluid in the hose above the pump you are ok. This is why I turned the car OFF when I emptied my res as long as you refill it before starting the motor you will be fine.

No need to jack up the front of the car, simply drive the front wheels onto a couple of old magazines beforehand and that will allow the wheels to turn easily.

Out with the old and in with the new...
I know this is really simple and basic stuff but I'm so numb from the constant PS woes of the LS400. When I bought my 430 about a month ago this is the first thing I looked into. Very happy to find those old issues are non existent...

Sweet! I let the indie do it at 84k ($45 but might have been just one extraction, afraid to ask and confirm that)? And it was on the carfax at 37k from a dealer? But my fluid is clearly not red/pink. Might just put the HFT pump to it and start exchanging....
