Default Thule

Anyone using a Thule cargo roof basket?
Really didn't wanna put anything on the roof, but if I have too, I want to use quality parts....
Considering a cargo roof basket with disconnect lights front and rear.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you have the crossbars, Thule basket will fit just fine. Some members have Yakima Skybox with OEM crossbars and some use Yakima railgrab bars.
I have a Yakima Load Warrior myself and will be getting crossbars soon.

I have a Yakima Load Warrior too...mounts and works well.

or one could go with the Megawarrior... thinking about adding the extension to mine.

  • Optional MegaWarrior Extension adds 22” and expands your cargo capacity by 40%

Thule gear is top notch but more $$$... not sure worth the premium but other's who have had both may have more info.

The Yakima model I have has held up well.

The reason I asked was if it was "soft cargo" (i.e. clothing, tents, etc.) I would recommend the Roof Bag - my review is HERE. But once you get to the hard stuff then I guess you are on the right track with something more solid.

I did not have any clearance between the yakima skybox clamps and the roof with Lexus cross bars. The Lexus bars are low profile. I went with Inno Racks for a base system, could not be happier.

Which Skybox do you have? Some members here were able to mount them with stock crossbars without issues. Were the clamps actually hitting the roof?

Skybox Pro 12 (with Inno rack)

With the box resting on the stock crossbars, clamps open, the clamps hit the roof and don't open enough to clear the stock bars. I had to lift the box while sliding it back to get the clamps under the bars. With the clamps fully closed, they were very close to the roof. With some gear, there was enough deflection in the bars the clamps touched the roof. Maybe there are variations in the the clamps and stock crossbars over the years, but my setup did not work.

I wish my garage entry was tall to allow a full box to be permanently installed. As-is if set my suspension to low setting my Yakima Load Warrior basket will pass unscathed through the garage entrance.
