I have a 2013 GX and I live on the western border of Rocky Mtn National Park. I am also a volunteer for the US Forest Service. My GX takes me everywhere I need/want to go, and it does so very confidently.
I've really only used these in snow but they would probably work fine in mud and snow as well. A nice extra method to help with traction if a winch, come-along or another assist vehicle with a tow strap is not available.
There are cheaper variants but really well built and lifetime guarantee. “GoTreads are guaranteed for life. In the unlikely event one breaks, we'll replace it for free. We stand behind our product 100%!”. They are not cheap but you will keep them a lifetime.
"Treads are a unique, patented automotive / trucking tool designed to provide the traction needed to get vehicles going again when stuck in snow, mud, or sand. This tool is the first and only tool designed specifically for large, heavy trucks but can also be used for smaller vehicles as well. Go Treads were successfully tested with semi trucks in deep snow. The patented arched grooves help the tool stay centered under the tire while adding strength to the tool as it supports the weight of fully loaded trucks. The deep grooves grip the slippery surface and the tire to provide the necessary traction to get the vehicle moving again, safely, without damaging the tire.
Go Treads were designed around one word – simple. It stores in small places. It can be put in position in a matter of seconds – no tools, no assembly, no attaching to the tire required. Every company with vehicles that must keep moving will find GoTreads the best investment they can make in terms of safety and time savings.
The smooth finish of the tool allows the snow and mud to shake off for easy cleaning. Go Treads are made of flexible, high strength, high impact polypropylene copolymer with special additives to give this durable plastic even greater toughness. Yet with all this strength, it weighs only 5.8 pounds. The tool is made in and shipped from Kansas City, Missouri.
For convenient storage, GoTreads folds to an overall length of twelve inches. It takes up little space and can be kept in any handy location such as under the vehicle’s seat."
I currently drive a 145,000 mile LX470 ('06). I'm the second owner and I LOVE this thing...its plush, comfortable, reliable and fast enough for me. Still, I know nothing lasts forever and I am currently planning to replace it in early '19. My research for a replacement has begun in earnest and the GX460 is at the top of my list. Parking lot reviewers have consistently heaped praise on it, but rankings I've seen on the web either completely ignore it in their lists of Midsize Luxury SUV's or score it near the bottom. Typical scorn comes from being under powered/slow, unimpressive interior appointments, lumbering handling. Of course I love my LX...maybe they'd rank it even further down the line.
Obviously, I need to go experience one for myself, but since purchase date is still a year off, I don't want to get a salesman all worked up. And I don't want to jump the gun...my purchase date is a year away. Period. This post is "early stage data gathering".
So, experienced GX460 drivers I ask you...will I love the GX460 the way I love my LX470? Will it give me the comfort to which I am accustomed? Will it accelerate as well as the LX? Will it be as quiet and comfortable? And maybe most important, will it be as stupid reliable as my fantastic LX470?
BTW, I am 6'3"/225. Most of my driving is solo on fairly straight 55 MPH two lanes and 65-75 MPH interstates. I do pull a tandem axle utility trailer a few times a year for 50 miles for my heavy duty Scag lawn mower or my Kubota RTV...I'm guessing total weight under 5K lbs.
