The SBC brake pump on 03-04 E55s are covered by a 10 year warranty by MBUSA
Its is a brake by wire system. It was removed from the E/CLS Class in 06 when the E63/E550 bowed.
The '07 E63/E550 uses a traditional braking system.
It proved to be a dismal failure and it cost the company 1.3 million cars to be recalled.
Changing brakes is a little more complicated on these cars. Keep the key in the house so it doesnt trigger anything.
- Pop the hood,
- Close the door and lock it,
- Put the key in the house,
- Open the hood and
- Disconnect the SBC.
And now we can perform a normal brake service.
Ironic that my E55 has 8 piston brembos up front and 4 piston brembos in the rear, yet it feels like braking in a golf cart.
If i were you i would be more concerned about the air suspension failing than the brakes.
The AMGs arent that expensive to maintain if you are handy. And there are not any more expensive than any other MB model or any luxury car for that matter.
Just dont blow the motor. Ive had a few friends who had tuning issues. They lost a cylinder head or two but they were heavily modified ie headers, 82 mm throttle bodies etc....
I have a conservative tune with a constant afr level so im not worried. Headers will be on my list and they will cost approx. $2k.
If you have any more questions about the E55
Let me know.
Ask mike from vossen. Im a guru on AMG C Classes and E Classes and have the parts hook ups.

That is a myth on E Classes in general.

I went from an SC to an E55 as well and in the 6 months of ownership... so far the only thing that has gone wrong is the fuel pump... it's just a common issue with these cars that was recalled and MB "fixed" it, but it ends up causing issues again. They won't cover it now and there's a pending lawsuit against them... not really sure if it'll go anywhere though...
Other than that... the car is a beast. It's meant to be a daily driven car... I believe the people who have air suspension issues are the ones that let their cars sit too much. There's a whole lot of power at your right foot and the car can be driven like a normal E Class on the days where you just want to lay low and cruise. Best aspect about AMGs in my opinion...

I agree... Brakes on a car wouldn't be a deciding factor... how often do you change your brakes?!

Just got my dashcam in the mail the other day
Ive been looking for a long time for one of these. As you know driving in South Florida can be frustrating.
Well after reading dashcam reviews here, http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/
and came to the conclusion that the DVR-207 was rated a better value.
Well this unit is the DVR-207 is around $60 on the bay, It also offers a screen to watch your videos
I found it simple to use. Tuns off and on with the car, and the screen resolution is actually pretty good.
Im not looking to record racing videos, i just wanted protection in case you know I have to get down to business.
For $60 you cant beat it, the camera just came out and they are so many of these on the market now. Im sure in a few months time we will see some better products.
Heres my video
Here are some pics,,,,Not bigger than a radar detector. Sits next to the V1

I just recently detailed my lexus this weekend
I started out by using dishwash detergent to get all the old wax off
I then clay barred every surface. I spent 4 hours doing this last saturday
Went out to the bar with my girl for a few drinks
So im lit up.
Car is in the garage and its 12am in the morning.
So i begin the compound process with Blackfire SRC Compound which you need a rotary polisher for
It removes 2000 grit scratches. i finished up early Sunday Morning after i got some cuban coffee.
Next step was the Mezerna SF400 superfinish finishing polish
Third step was the Blackfire wet diamond sealant.
I didnt take any before and after photos. But the next step will be Blackfire Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax and then another coat of sealant.
Its a must have for a black car.
Keep in mind I bought this car dirt cheap. Even with megan ez coilovers its as comfortable as my E55.
Bumper will be resprayed and new headlights and foglights are ready to go on.
I will 3M defender spray the bumper after our local interstate (595) is finished with the new asphalt. All the rock chips are from the road construction.
