I think this basically the same feature that dates back to '10. Safety upgrades have been mentioned for '18 Prado so safe to assume GX will at least get some of them.
PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM* WITH DRIVER ATTENTION MONITOR*
To help prepare for and avoid potential front collisions, the available Pre-Collision System includes a Driver Attention Monitor that is designed to warn you if you're facing away from the road when an obstacle is detected ahead. Should it determine a frontal collision is likely, it's designed to automatically prepare Brake Assist* for increased braking response and can even automatically begin braking under certain conditions.
Im still not clear. From what I get PCS is different from Automatic Brake in the RX. PCS, detects obstacles in front, detects and warns driver, Preps the brakes so your essentially having more brake assist then usual, but the driver still has to engage the brakes (so passive).. RX has the same system but it intervenes automatically with brakes without driver support
i would be very careful with this system.
It is not designed to completely stop the vehicle to my knowlegdge, hence the term PRE collision. IT IS NOT AUTOMATIC BRAKING.
It will start braking and slowing the gx down, but from what i read it wont stop it. It only works above 20 mph
and sometimes it will trigger if someone pulls out in front of you on highway changing lanes, or if someone
coming towards you as you are turning, or if you gaining on someone and then suddenly change lanes.
The PCS sucks imho compared to subaru eyesight which DOES have automatic braking.
The name of the package is "Driver Support Package" - it does have auto-braking and it does brake quite hard if it decides to - I have tested it. It will first blink "STOP" in the dashboard and then apply the brakes.
