Windshield questions, repairs, replacements

• New rain sensor pad
• New clips and trim? All that could be replaced after the fact.
• That electrical windshield defroster connector at bottom/middle of windshield looks like they shorten the wire on 3rd party glass. Hopefully this doesn't create too much tension.
I wonder if the trim and clips on sides of windshield are replaced my many installers?

Probably the extra cameras/sensors for Lane Departure Alert , Pre-collision alert and smart high beams
Not sure where the radar sensor is on a GX so-equipped. The one on my Infiniti is below the bumper but on some cars they replaced the grille emblem.

I had my windshield replaced yesterday at an independent I use. He used a Pilkington branded windshield. Aside from no Lexus symbol it aesthetically looks the same. He reused all the parts unlike the video above so we'll see how things go. Trim seems to be held on well and I won't know on rain sensor for a while but he said if it was an issue to bring it back and he would swap the part. Installer told me he hasn't had anyone complain yet on that. Cost was around $380 without tax. I've since lowered my comp deductible to $50... lesson learned since so little savings keeping high deductible on that piece.
EDIT: Forgot to mention... I don't have time to check before Saturday appt but I will definitely be pulling the spark plug coils to check for oil intrusion into the plug wells after I get car back. Hopefully they can button this thing up before 4th of July weekend. At least my small fishing boat is small enough to tow with the 2K limited capacity of my CX-5 if need be.

^^^ You may experience this.

The silicone I used worked for a while, but now I have to push on the sensor when it rains. I need to clean it up and start over with something that is not so flexible.

Amazing what they want for a new OEM. I guess I will see what I lost or if no difference in days ahead. If future replacement is needed I will see if my insurance is willing to cover OEM.
EDIT: I still think OEM was water repellent even with no supporting documentation .. I need to Rain-x this new one.

Would the insurance company recognize that you do not have the OEM windshield? I don't know if they would bother looking into it, but it is a substantial cost difference so it is possible.
Has anyone had an insurance adjuster look at the windshield to get approval for OEM replacement?

Not sure... might just try to have replaced at Lexus dealer and see what happens, Most probably just contract out work and I would end up with another OEM quality replacement. I don't have anything to really complain about at this time with replacement. It is optically very clear too.

I notice my installer broke some of the clips. After dealer power washed it was sticking out from top. Insist on new trim with a windshield replacement. There are 5 clips on each side and it says parts are not reusable. Looking at design there really isn't a way to release these without damaging them. I'm in about $75 for the parts on eBay. If yours is staying in place with stock trim installer most likely used some extra windshield adhesive behind trim to help retain trim.

Once the trim is off it doesn't sit back very well, usually on the cheaper cars they would put the silicon to hold the trim back. On mine it all looks brand new along with the windshield.

Dealer probably installed new pieces like in the video a few posts back. I noticed when I got home after install it did seem like trim was looser but I thought I would run with it for a while. Today though showed it needed to be replaced. I've temporarily used some black electrical tape to help retain it at the top while the new items arrive early next week.

Replaced parts yesterday... nice and factory tight now. Driver side clips were basically all busted on the secure point that attaches to the white plastic grommets attached to the windshield frame.
Passenger side those blue clips were all in place but the secure notches on the trim pieces were all broken off. Removing the blue clips can be kind of a pain but I found that if you break the plastic piece that sits over the head of the grommet first it usually splits the clip in half and makes it easier to remove them. The new trims pieces make a nice solid snap into place.

I took some pics here so everyone has a clear understanding of what breaks on removal. In the future, if I need a windshield replaced again I will source these parts before replacement.
On the blue clips...here is a used one but they no longer retain themselves on windshield frame grommet when those small pieces of plastic are broken off or bent outward.
On the trim... here is the difference between a good one and one that is broken
Here is how they snap together

Are GX460 windshields defective from the factory?
So I have like a 3 month old 2017 GX460, and it has developed a massive crack on the right side of the windshield. To my knowledge, there was no rock that hit it. I have never seen a crack like this without some sort of impact almost like an accident or impact.
Just reading around, I see this crack has happened to other people in the same spot.
Curious if maybe this is somrt of structural issue that could be happening? If it was just your typical rock chip I wouldn't bat an eye, but its a huge crack through the windshield.
Seems odd, wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
