Could it also be where the smell comes from when the engine compartment is hot?
Thanks a lot

No... oil in that location shouldn't give off any weird smells. Did they mention changing any other oils like the front diff? Might be possible to get some of that on the diff.

On another note...maybe they used some kind of engine cleaner that is still wearing off?

Went to the dealer this morning, was told it could be a plastic bag got caught while I was driving. They didn't really check anything, since my car was there last week for squeaking sound problem,if there was any leaking, they would already known back then.

So today I decided to take a look at it myself, to see if there is any plastic melted near where the brake fluid area. I believe that's where the smell comes from. I found a hole with black rubber type of thing melted around It and there is more on the back of the hole. Is the hole supposed to be covered by a plastic cap? And I accidently broke couple of plastic bolts that tighten up the cover, drop them somewhere there, is this something I should be concern about?

As long as there is one of those fasteners left you should be fine. You could always look for some 3rd party ones on eBay. I took mine off a few minutes ago to compare. That almost looks like a drilled hole.... maybe firewall grommet like seen in mine but different location.

Looking at hole in your picture you can see interior wiring. Even if this is a red herring to smell I would get that sealed up... it would probably stay dry for the most part put it would be a possible water intrusion point.

Does it look like there was anything aftermarket on car that may have gotten pulled out? Any interior screw holes on lower part of dash.

On the lower part of hole is that cover piece trimmed? Compare to my photo as that hole is covered by the trim piece.

You may be able to see where that comes through on inside by shining a flashlight into hole and looking under dash. I think that small line coming out of the large grommet above is the hood release.

That hole is also a way to get engine smells into the cabin easier.

Yea, you right, there are two screw holes on the lower part of dash, and also that cover has been torn apart by pre owner.
any idea what it could be? Anything to do with the smell? I don't really smell anything inside the car. Thank you so much for your help

You might be able to track down a rubber grommet that will fit on eBay if you can get measurements. I'd probably just use some silicon caulking. You could get black but it is under a cover anyway so no one would see it anyway.

The hole is right behind the brake. Got 1inch plug from amazon, should I apply some silicone sealant with it as well?
nothing really damaged the car with all these DIY they did right?

If the plug fits well I wouldn't worry about the sealant. The odd thing to me a bout this is why they didn't try to leverage the use of the existing plug next to the hole. That is what I would have done and then sealed around that. This would have been far less invasive than what was done here which aside from the hole they also cut out pieces of trim/sound insulation/carpet to accommodate the hole.

This in itself should not have functionally damaged vehicle barring they hit a wire but that doesn't appear to be the case here from pictures you posted.

Any contact info left in navigation about previous owner?

Dealer never reset mine so I was able to determine who it was.

I had thought about reaching out about the missing FOB I had to buy but she probably would have thought I was some creepy stalker even though she is apparently a well known female in national body building competitions.

Did you buy this as a CPO?
