Lightbulb Brand New 2014 GX460 w/EGR Valve Broken...

First Question: I have 900 miles on my new 2014 GX460 (bought in Sept) and engine light popped on. Told by Lexus that EGR valve needed to be replaced. It was defective. They said that they heard a whole lot was shipped bad and put on trucks. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Should I be concerned about the longevity of my new truck now? Easy replacement? Could there be other issues? Has there really ever been a Lexus Lemon? I had a 2007 GX470 that hummed along wonderfully for years, so now worried.

Second question - at what RPM does your GX460 idle at while in gear? After getting it back, it seems to be idling low, but Lexus tells me it is computer configured and even if they wanted to tweak it they couldn't. So freakin' hard to believe people these days.

I wouldn't be worried at all and I agree about the computer relearn, it will smooth right out after some miles. Electronics are electronics, sometimes they just go bad, doesn't make the whole vehicle go bad unless it burns to the ground.

Drive and enjoy.

That is unbelievable. I know mass production items break but man I hate it happened to my brand new $50k+ purchase. Will there be a TSB or recall?

Sorry for your issue.

Thanks - I am not sure about a bulletin or not, but so far things have been OK. I do like my car, and loved my 2007 GX470, but I have to say, with this, the lean issue, and the airbag recall, I feel like I am running out to the car to check the VIN with finger's crossed way to often. Here's to optimistic thinking, putting things in the rear view mirror and enjoying the car again.

EDIT: TSB for '14-'16 DTC P2440/P2442 attached

"
Some 2014 – 2016 model year GX 460 vehicles may exhibit a MIL “ON” condition with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2440 (Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve Stuck Open, Bank 1) or P2442 (Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve Stuck Open, Bank 2) and under some conditions may enter limp mode (limited throttle input ~ 25mph). This condition can be triggered by sub-freezing ambient temperatures. Follow the Repair Procedure below to address this condition. "

I guess this mean air valve issues are occurring on '14+ models

This one seems to actually be full model year run.

Default Wifes '13 - codes P006A and P0305, P0301 / EGR testing?

Wed afternoon wife comes in from work - lights are flashing - 4LO, Trac off and CEL is on, also it is running rough and almost stalled. Great. Park it and she takes my 470. Hers is 2013 with 98k miles - had secondary air injection pump replaced last year, also it may have engine valley coolant leak present. So I scanned with OBD II bluetooth scanner using Torque app. Initially showed P006A (power train) and P0305 (cylinder 5 misfire). So I clear codes and drive around for 10 min. Car does have some difficulty starting. 4lo, CEL and Trac off returns. Check codes again - P006A, P0301, P0303. Now different cylinders misfiring. I post on GXOR site - someone posts TSB for '14-16 models about EGR exhibiting same symptoms. Not sure this could apply to my '13. Someone also mentioned switching coil packs. So I switched 3 and 5. Start car ( hard to start) and clear the codes, let it run for 10 min and check codes again - still have P006A, P0301 and P0303. So, switching coil packs did nothing. Check my battery and it is 2 1/2 years old, pull it to take to interstate just in case its bad. Next morning run to Interstate - bad battery. Install new battery at lunch and starts no problem. Still have the same codes after clearing.

Friday evening I pull the EGR, very black and crusty. Not sure how to tell if it is in the open or closed position. I need a way to test the valve.
Techdoc provided measurements for resistance which mine passed - (18-22), mine was 21.6.

I found this post for LS models 1990-2000 models.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...UuTJm7-mO2jToQ
At the bottom is a pdf on testing egr valve using the battery. I tried this on my valve. I could hear the motor "working" but the valve did not move.
Does any one have different testing procedures?
Thanks, Nelson

That P006A error isn't really talked about in the FSMs.

Here is an excerpt related to error on a Tundra. Intake leak discussed there

Thanks for replying. I may replace PCV valve, re install egr valve and check for leaks. Hate to purchase new egr if not needed. Thanks again.

I missed that PDF you linked to for testing the EGR with a battery.

It's an older link. Not sure if it is relevant to our model. The pic of the plug is like ours, so I figured might as well try. I tried removing the motor from the valve but the screws are fairly soft and did not move.

Not a cheap part like a PCV to just swap in.. about $230.00... looks like cheaper ones on eBay too.

Is this vehicle fairly stock in the engine area? No aftermarket intake?

I saw the egr's on ebay but there is no warranty. Not sure if that matters.
All stock engine.
