Default 03 LS430 - How to remove oil dipstick tube

Im going to change out my valve cover gaskets and I see that the oil dipstick tube is blocking access to one of the bolts. Can anyone tell me how to remove it?

The 03 LS430 has 2 oil dipsticks - one for the motor oil, another for the ATF. I'm not sure which oil dipstick tube is in your way, but each tube is attached to the engine block with 2 bolts (the center bolt is common to both dipsticks). Once the the bolts are removed, simply pull the upper tube out of the lower tube. Refer to the diagram below for detail...

Great thanks for the diagram. Any tips for removing them or is it pretty obvious? The engine bay is pretty packed.

Suggest you make sure your car is not sitting with the front end facing "downhill" when you're checking your oil level...I found out many years ago that this can significantly effect the oil level reading on a dipstick.

The o ring for the oil dip stick has been a source of oil leakage that I’ve been keeping an eye on for the last few years. It might be a good idea to check it out if accessible when removing the tube. I’ve been told it’s not uncommon to leak there when the miles pile on.
