The i905 is to use in case of the air intake valve failure and allow me to continue on with a trip where there is no Lexus dealer nearby (have 1.5 years left of CPO warranty). I'm smart phone illiterate and use it only as a phone, text and google maps on occasions. I don't always have a phone with me, but can leave the i905 in the GX.
Fair enough. Some of us, early adopters of Carista are indeed grandfathered-in to the non-subscription based licensing model. I got in as a beta tester for the Audi.
I will attest to Carista adapter and App being extremely easy to use. Just plug-it-in and open the app.

Someday I'll get up to modern times utilizing the smart phone LOL.

Word of advice, don't get an Android phone.
That's for young folks that are OK to be Alpha-testers and have lots of patience.

Only Androids I used are for some walled-off home automation projects. Other than that an iPhone. I haven't played with Windows Mobile since Pocket PC 2003 but the latter seems like a dead platform anyways. Surely some older computer folks than me. My first computer (TI-99/4A)in really early 80's had 16K of RAM and a 3Mhz processor. Not even a floppy drive... you loaded programs from a cassette recorder.

Hi guys, I'm the founder of Carista and wanted to clear up any confusion about Carista's pricing and features. The current pricing is:

- FREE standard OBD2 diagnostics ("check engine" light diagnostics, i.e. engine and transmission, i.e. same thing that other OBD2 apps do)
- PAID customizations and manufacturer-specific diagnostics of all ECUs in the car (no other app has this): either $39.99/year as a subscription or $9.99 for a 1-week pass (not a subscription). Plus, either of the paid options includes full access to all features in the app, including those for other brands like VW/Audi, BMW/Mini, etc.

We switched to this pricing model about a year ago, but if you had purchased our old Pro Package before that, then you are indeed grandfathered-in and you don't have to pay anything extra. You do get unlimited access to all features, including the ones we've added since we switched to the new model.

I dare say, Carista is much easier to use than any other tool you might have. It's available for iPhone/iPad and Android. If there are any questions, please let me know. Thanks.

I am due for renewal for my tag that requires an emissions test. I disconnected the bypass module with hopes that I could pass the test with clearing the codes. No such luck, I seem to have every possible code with this system now. I plan to schedule a Lexus dealer appointment for next week. I will ask about the air bag recall and see if I can get it all done at once.

tecman: Does your state have a sunset date on emission testing? Up in WA state anything 2009 or newer has never needed a test and all testing will be completely gone by 2020.

Is the secondary air intake system expected to fail around 100K miles? I noticed there are numerous complaints on 2010 - 2012 models. Have anyone encountered this issue with 2013 - 2017 models?

Saw this posting here:

http://carspecmn.com/gx460-check-eng...5-andor-p0418/

"We’re not sure exactly what was changed to prevent the filter from getting eaten by the pump, but we’ve yet to see any GX460 with the updated parts have the issue again. I suspect they just glued the filter in place better. Any new version of the pump from Lexus will include the updated design as long as the dealer correctly supersedes the old number to the new. They will also have the service bulletin on hand that has the correct, updated part number. I don’t know if aftermarket pumps are updated. 2014 and later GX460s should all have the updated parts."

EDIT: I guess I should remove the pump cover to check on the status of foam in mine.

It has been mentioned that the filter is more course. I don't think it is. The extra cover seems to be the only noticeable difference. I will officially have an expired tag come early July and having this done required a computer reset by Lexus. All systems need to check in with time to clear the codes. I went to have the emissions test done the same day I got it back from Lexus and I had MANY failures. I went back today after driving 150+miles for all systems to check in and only one has cleared. I can see the failures with Carista and resetting does no good. I was advised to do some highway driving and I can go to the tag office and file for an extension. I told the emissions guy "I have a July tag so I should be fine for that month, right?" He said no, the police cameras scan the plate and know your expiration date...

Thanks for posting the newer parts.

That foam filter design does look just like the one on my 2011 and not like the later year model's I've seen here which appeared more coarse and stronger.

Hopefully your Lexus dealer can sort the emissions so you pass the test before your deadline is up.

I guess I should open mine up just to see condition of foam.

Anything more to remove other than the security or hex bit screws? Do you need to remove the one at top as well?

Any idea what specific bit?

Thanks!

You just need to remove one hex at the top (center) to see the foam.
