TPMS Testing and Programming with TechStream 2002-2006
I know, it's been addressed many times in different ways but I could not find a thread dedicated to Testing and Programming the TPMS sensors in our cars. I am pretty sure this applies to years 2002-2006...
i Am only going to show how to find the bad sensor for now and will show Programming when the new sensor arrives.
Turn on your techstream software, connect the OBDII connector to your car.
Once it detects your car
Select Tire Pressure Monitor from the menu.
As you see, Techstream provides plenty of data from the TPMS sensor. Easy to read and diagnose. The low voltage and extremely high temp was the giveaway this was the bad sensor.
Just curious why you are not replacing all of them since one has gone bad. The other three are not far behind. I have an 06 and the next time I get tires I am planning to replace all of the sensors. They are almost 12 years old at this point and I can't imagine they will last that much longer.

because I replaced one two years ago and now another is going bad...I guess I could go that way but not sure why...

Does the sensor come with the gaskets etc. or should we get those too? Also, did you find it easier to add 6 lbs. of let out 6 lbs. pressure to register the sensor?
) is misleading to those with 2002-2006 SC430's as this doesn't apply to our vehicles. After notating all of the sensor ID's I was puzzled when I realized that there was no option to manually input the sensor ID's manually with the TIS TPMS Utility.
Notice how there are no 7-alphanumeric characters within the TIS TPMS Live Data? It only shows the color labels (White, Red, Yellow, Blue). Our sensors are registered by rapidly deflating the tires 6lbs within 300 seconds. I tried deflating a couple times and gave up. Helps to have an air compressor nearby in the event you release too much air.
I've been researching this ALL morning nearly pulling my hair out but at least I know I'm not crazy. I will attempting the deflation method again this evening.

what color sensor did you purchase?
also, when i registered my first one two years ago, I did the rapid deflation and it registered just fine. Are you sure your letting out enough air.
i think I just kept letting air out until registered.
once I receive the next one in a few days, I will document the procedure again.

I must say that my original set from 2002 are in my winter tires/rims and 3/4 lasted 15 years without replacement. So replacing them all at one time b'c one failed doesn't necessarily mean that others are doomed to fail soon after. Just my experience.
BGW, awesome write up! Hope this works and gives us some direction for these horrible TPMS sensors. In any case, I'm glad you're taking the initiative BGW. If you have time and the foresight, maybe you can please continue the DIY to adding a second set of TPMS (for which the switch in the glove box is dedicated). I would greatly appreciate it. Every season I have to return to Lexus to have them swap the Main for 2ndary, which they just just erase the MAIN and put new numbers every time rather than take the time to do two different sets. So frustrating. Anyway, if you show us how to program both sets, that would be phenomenal. Thanks so much and good luck!
Also BGW, as a side question. Do you have a key code for the TechStream or are you using the "Evaluate" function? I installed mine but don't have/wasn't given a key. Thanks for any advice.

programming the sensors is very intuitive and the second set is just like the first set. Techstream provides step by step instructions.
my new sensor has been shipped but not sure when I will see it due to Hurricane Irma!
Is it easy to reprogram the TPMS yourself ?
the dealer wants like $475 to do all 4 if I recall

A Lexus dealer may want more than that and yes, it is very easy.
when the new sensor arrives, I will show you the process to program a new sensor for the 2002-2006 model.
2007-2010 are similar but a little different and there is already a tutorial here on CL.

I purchased all four for a 2nd set of wheels. You are correct that I likely didnt let out of enough air. I was too lazy to pull out the air compressor hose. But you made a good point about OVER-inflating by 6lbs and then releasing the air. Is 300 seconds enough time to deflate all four tires? Or will I have to keep restarting the procedure when I run out of time?
