Default ExtremeContact Sport 02 versus Pilot Sport 4 S!

I have been waiting for this video for a while. The Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 has been on my radar since it was announced, since it promised to be a viable, cheaper alternative to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. By "viable", I mean similar in terms of performance.

Well, in watching this video, I come away thinking that's actually the case. It seems the reviewer rates these tires are comparable - different products with their own quirks, but overall very much in the same performance category. I may have to try the Contis this time. What do you guys think?

They are on my list. I've owned quite a few Continentals on my past Subaru's and my wife's IS 350. I lean a little more towards the Michelin's due to their dry performance tends to be that little bit better. Also right now at the tire rack the difference on 4 tires is $186 and that's without any rebates in the equation which actually favors Continental right now but that changes all the time. However I am hoping the Pilot Sport S 5 will be readily available when it comes time to buy tires for my car as it's an OEM tire at the moment.

Brand loyalty will have me buying the PS4S when the factory tires are toast.

My experience with Continental and Continental customer service has been pisspoor. I had terrible noise problems a few years ago on my ISF with ContinentalExtreme DW tires. Continental customer service did nothing to help. Discount Tire on the other hand gave me full credit and I replaced with Bridgestone SO4 tires, and those turned out to be a fantastic choice. My LC has Michelin PS4S.

Cointinental is a BIG NONO for me

Why would you complain to Conti when you're supposed to work with Discount Tire, who made you whole anyway by giving you full credit. You seem like a problem customer.

^^^^Fella - Thanks so much for your distorted remark Why wouldn't I complain to the manufacturer? Shouldn't they know about the performance of their product? I was only reporting my experiences, no need for you to be so nasty I will certainly remember you in the future

@macmaster Honestly, who asked you what kind of customer they were? Please stay polite or stay out of the thread.

My continental experience on my Subarus was great. It's been fine on my IS 350 also. But the IS 350 has the All-Season ones on it. However the previous Michelin Pilot Sport 3+ All-Season tires were a hair better. On my wife's car when it is time we will get the all season Pilot Sport 4's as of now.

Bumping this after owning my Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 tires for quite some time now.

I am a fan. I don't know if I'd go back to the Michelin or not. These are pretty much just as grippy as the Michelin while being a bit less twitchy on-center. I think they're better for daily use thanks to that drivability as well as less noise and better ride quality.

Tire Rack Ultra High Performance vs. Max Performance Summer Tires – 2024 Test 3
June 7, 2024

The Continental is given the edge but you can see areas where the Michelin does better. Point is you can't go wrong with either tire.

Seems like the Michelin got penalized big time for the ride and noise. One of which is very subjective.

If it's any help, I agree with that assessment. Neither tire is super quiet, by any means. However, I feel the noise in the Continental fades into the background and is less distracting than the Michelin's noise. This is especially noticeable out on the highway, where I felt the Michelin would drone on and on. The main downside of the Continental is that the steering isn't quite as sharp as the Michelin, but the steering is still quite a bit better than stock and makes it more fun to drive. Honestly, the Michelin bordered on being a little too immediate for my tastes, anyway.
