I'm about 850 miles into my Lexus GX550 journey and every morning when I leave my house I have a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear, and a few times throughout the rest of my drive. It also downshifts quite aggressively when coasting and jerks the vehicle. Not what I expected for a new luxury SUV. I've read that this is normal in some IS powertrains and was wondering if that's just how Lexus is or if I should get it looked into. Otherwise the GX is wonderful. I'm just surprised.

The IS 8AT transmission is completely different from the GX's 10AT, and I've never experienced harsh shifts with this transmission in other applications (LS 500, Tundra). I would ask your dealer to take a look and be sure the transmission fluid is filled correctly, or if there might already be a software update.

QC stop sale order issued. Just like 2010. No idea what the issue is, but there seem to be some problems.

I read it was temp paint protection that was affecting paint on hood.

It has something to do with the shipping wrap/what ever they use during transport on the front apparently can come loose and flap and has been leaving a line of small surface marks on the hood about 6" up from the lights. We just got ours yesterday and had very faint marks and they buffed it out in a few minutes and looks perfect.

Nothing to be concerned about from mechanical stand point.

Just picked ours up about 30 hours ago and have maybe 40 miles on it now and we haven't experience anything remotely jerky with shifts.

if it's truly the paint protection film, then why do they need 30 days. good Christ.

I just picked up Lux plus GX and haven't experienced any issues with shifting transmission.

read somewhere about water leak from sunroof in both GX550 and LC250.

I've had mine for two months and have noticed an occasional hard shift between 1st and 2nd, and possibly 3rd. It isn't constant and has happened both up and down. I've noticed it when driving through a neighborhood with lots of stop signs. I've also noticed the shift from reverse to drive has felt slightly off. It's not alarming but I do plan to have it looked at when I eventually take it in for service.

I just got mine 3 weeks ago. Premium +. I'm noticing what sounds like a deeper noise downshifting to make slow turns (I.e. into the driveway). Seems to happen down from 2nd to 1st gear. Like a very faint bass drop in an EDM song is the best way I can describe it lol. Anyone else?

any update on this issue? I got my GX last week and it seems to be pretty tough every time I shift from reverse into drive. It’s like a rough clunk, hard to explain but for sure not normal.

I’m 10k miles in and the downshifting from 2nd to 1st is really bad now. Also get it 3rd to 2nd and reverse to drive but 2nd to 1st is definitely the worst.
