now idk if there's any other watch geeks in here but 'Tourbillon' is actually a fairly silly name to give your latest cutting edge hypercar, considering the Tourbillon became obsolete roughly 200 years ago and is now just a pretentious accessory for rich showoffs... actually maybe it's a perfect name after all lol
that gauge cluster is fantastic so at least they did get some horological elements in there to match the name
I like watches.
Mr. Rimac is the genius VW wanted for the Bug brand and he delivered in a huge way with this car.
A wonderful tourby is one of the top accomplishments from any great watchmaker.
I am sure most customers for this car have a watch collection
A great watch is a synthesis of ideas, design materials, craft.
All the same points apply to this car.
Consider why this will be compelling to a Chiron owner.
New motor that revs like crazy and sounds special, visual elements that can be discussed for hours in your garage with your friends, superlative interior details, love how the wheel has no spokes, immense performance enhanced by Rimac tech.
As a Gen 2 NSX owner I enjoy when the 2 front and 1 rear eMotor approach is applied (as was for the SF90).
Here is an example of a touby I like a lot https://grandseikoboutique.us/produc...billon-slgt003
1000hp 8.3L naturally aspirated V16 revving to over 9000! who would've thought that's something we'd be saying in 2024
Mate Rimac is fantastic, he's an actual car enthusiast with the genius and influence needed to make sure projects like this happen... i have enough respect for him that i'll capitalize his name when typing it which is something i can rarely be bothered to do lmao
i just watched the vid where he takes Shmee through a guided tour, super cool stuff!
oooh that's incredible... didn't even know grand seiko did these! i got a speedmaster racing a few years ago (you know, because a good chronograph is a necessary piece in any collection lol) but the grand seiko spring drive is absolutely something i'll have to get when the time is right... i can't think of a better watch to compliment the LS 400 than that perfectly smooth sweep of the spring drive seconds hand
I was exposed to Grand Seiko in Japan 10+ years ago, just kept looking at them in the cases and saying to myself, why do they look so much better than the Seikos.
I have couple of them and since I am a simple person I like the Hi Beat over the Spring Drive (even though I totally respect what they created there).
Anyway, cool car and cool watch owners can rejoice about this new Bug.
Looking forward to seeing and hearing them in Chicago in a couple of years.

Ayyyyyy 42mm series?
The spring drive is like the LS600 IMO, hybrid flagship.

the 42mm is the speedmaster lol, i got the 40mm 'racing' variant
i won't deny that a big reason i got this was because it's cheaper lol but i do genuinely prefer some aspects of this version (sapphire glass, date window, and is automatic) and when in the sunlight the dial is like a lovely cobalt blue

Nice!
Technically the moon watch is the OG speedy and all the self winders are the modern ones. I'm trying to justify one myself but I already carry a $7300 gun so I'm trying to have some sort of limits

That's a keeper, great proportions.
Omega is the number 3 Swiss brand in terms of sales for good reason.

yea the whole 'this is what the astronauts wore' is nice for marketing and good for them but it doesn't mean much to me lol... a watch meant for the racetrack though that's much more my style! also this version is less likely to be mistaken for the 'moonswatch'
