Question 2000 ES300 Rack & Pinion Replacement - What is best practice?

Waiting on parts to replace the Rack and Pinion on 2000 ES300. I've been reviewing videos and reading up and gotten to the step of removing the intermediate shaft (45202-33010) from the rack and pinion. Checking out two different videos covering the same year and in one from 1A Auto, the shaft is simply tapped (or slugged) off the spline. In the other from TRQ, the tech removes all 12mm bolts from the shaft and steering coupling, entirely removing the coupling (45230-33030). I think the latter makes more sense, but what is the common practice out there? Anything to make sure of before proceeding? The wheel is centered and held in place.
