Default Front Brake pads? Base RWD vs F Sport vs AWD?

Trying to figure something new to test and share before I post it. Too lazy to look up, and forgot info seen in the past.

Are the front Brake Pads the same for all the 4th Gen Model? If I remember correctly, for aftermarket front pads they all show the same pad. True or not?

Jamie:

I'm seeing: P/N 04465-30491 is for F-Sport - 2WD - - [Edit to add] Note: P/N 04465-30540 replaces P/N 04465-30491 as a 'Low Noise" pad for F-Sport per TSB L-SB-0001-20

I'm seeing: P/N 04465-30510 is for AWD non-F-Sport - I'm also seeing the same P/N 04465-30510 is for AWD with F-Sport

I'm seeing P/N 04465-30510 is for 2WD non-F-Sport

► It's only the 4GS 2WD F-Sport brakes that has the squealing problem. ◄

It's usually best to enter the VIN # in Lexus Dealer's parts website for an accurate P/N - although the dealer's parts website may not have the P/N 04465-30540 'Low Noise per TSB" pad that replaces the P/N 04465-30491 in their system.

Yea that's what was confusing me?

The P/N 04465-30491 seems to be correct for F - 2wd, AWD Not F, and AWD F, and the 2WD Base and Lux. Can't figure out that P/N 04465-30491 Pad that shows 2013 - 2020 Lexus GS350 with no model specifics? My best guess is that all the front pads are the same, regardless, because it seems all the aftermarket front are the same for all GS350's.

I do know that Lexus actually sold some Lexus pads that were Advics, then some were Akebono's. Maybe that's the diff in part numbers. Or maybe they made a change to try and reduce the F Sport noise? IDK?

From Brembo and Akebono and others the Base, F Sport, Lux, RWD and AWD all use the same pad.

I was talking to my buddy about this yesterday but was asking him more about brake rotor part numbers. He was saying that sometimes they give a different part number just to see what year/ model the parts are being bought for. Could also be different materials or vendors

@jgscott - Jamie, Here's something new for you to test and share about it!

Have you seen anything on the relatively new Lexus P/N 04465-30540 'Low Noise TSB' front brake pads for 4GS 2WD F-Sport model?

The TSB L-SB-0001-20 is dated 1/9/2020 but I don't think many 2WD 4GS F-Sport model owners are aware of this new front brake pad that addresses the common brake squeal complaints from owners.

It appears most F-Sport owners think (or are told) that P/N 04465-30491 is the only Lexus front pad for their car.

Here's the TSB recommending the new P/N 04465-30540 to replace P/N 04465-30491

The full TSB L-SB-0001-20 is attached below in this post.

I hope it helps you!

Yep, unfortunately I think that'll be a typical happening for awhile until people providing parts advice and information catch-up to learn about the latest 2WD F-Sport front pad part number.

Front Brake pads for 4th Gen GS 350 F-Sport 2WD:

Advics Brand (NEW NO SQUEAL Pads per TSB) Front Brake Pads P/N: 04465-30540
Textar Brand - OE & Typical replacement (SQUEALS like a PIG!) Front Brake Pads P/N: 04465-30491
Front Shim Kit P/N: 04945-30340
Brake Caliper Grease P/N: 08887-80609

* I think Advics makes the 4GS F-Sport 4-piston front brake caliper, so the new P/N
04465-30540 'No Squeal' front brake pad should be a good match.

Nice! So this new, (not so new? 2020), new Lexus P/N 04465-30540'Low Noise TSB' front brake pads for 4GS 2WD F-Sport model? Been out from 2020? Someone has to have used it already. Anyone????

Thing is, I have not seen anybody who did the F Sport front with any Factory Pad combo that did not still experience some noise at all. Even with the SHIM kit. Have seen success with the Akebono's that have the extra added attacked bonded backing. I helped do 2 friends F Sport brakes been little short of 2 years ago and they report still no noise at any time at all ever.

Reason I am asking is I am doing the F Sport brake upgrade on my 13 GS350 Lux. I found some pads I really like that have some great bite and a few designs to prevent any brake noise and squeal. They show the fronts as AWD Pads only. Everything I see shows all the Pads with FIT all GS350's the same. I should have them in my hands by Tue and will start a new thread with them. Thanks again b/c!!!

You're very welcome, Jamie!

I'm sure others will enjoy hearing from you about the pads you found you really like. Also, hearing from you about the P/N 04465-30540 'Low Noise TSB' front brake pads if you decide to give them a try.

Hopefully, someone that already has the P/N 04465-30540 'Low Noise TSB' pads will chime-in to let us know what they think of them...

Looking at the Dixcel website, they offer one pad shape for the Base RWD + All AWD (311532) and a unique pad shape for the RWD F-Sport (311547).

https://www.dixcel.co.jp/sx/i.php?querystr=LEXUS+GS350

Project Mu's website does not recognize that the Base RWD + All AWD front brake pads are all the same. However, I have the F110 pad shape on the front of my AWD F-Sport. The RWD F-Sport requires the F114 pad shape.

It was a few years back I did the upgrade to replace the Textar pads with the Advics. There is still a little squeal when cold, but that's about it.
I was frequently cleaning and re-lubing the pad slide surfaces to shut the dang pads up; it was embarrassing as heck. The Advics were the solution for me; I was at my wits end.
I am happy for those who have had luck with other solutions.

I replaced my front pads and rotors with all OEM/factory items (including the fancy shim kit) a little over a year ago. Greased all the metal-to-metal contact points and haven't had any noise at all to this day.

(Knocking on wood now to avoid the incoming jinx.)

Heard this same story for the last 5 - 6 years here from a few owners. Only to then complete a confession that they only squeal sometimes like when cold in the am, and/or backing up.

A few years ago a Lexus Owners filed a lawsuit about the squealing brakes. Engineers and experts determined that the bake components used on some Lexus were by material and design, - Impossible to to not make noise on some Lexus. Lexus corp then sent out technical service bulletin, and Lexus allegedly told dealers that squealing or squeaking sounds are an “inherent characteristic of high-performance brake systems.

Thanks. So are you saying that Project Mu's, pads show different for the AWD F Sport fronts, than the RWD F Sport Fronts? Why if so?

Everyone else except Lexus shows the same pad for both, and also the Lux & Base.
