You'll nearly always get a better price from a private seller. But you will have to deal with the scammers, tire kickers, and low-ballers. 🙄

The story with Car-Max is your mileage is above what they like to put on their lot to sell themselves, so it would be wholesaled. And their offer would reflect that.

If you do list it privately, make sure it's to a local buyer, and meet them at their bank to get paid. That way you know the funds are good.
If they're getting a loan for the truck, the bank may want to get a look at it (verify the VIN, mileage, etc.) so there's another reason for doing the transaction there.
