Default Cross Traffic System - is this normal

Just ran into this over the weekend on a new 2024. I am doing 40 on a 4 lane road. Various cross streets connect to the road with stop signs. Motorcycle is coming up to stop sign on one of these roads as I approach at 40. He goes past the stop sign and the cross traffic system seems to take over. It seemed like it wanted to hit brakes and move me over one lane. This is not what I want. I can swerve if needed and if clear. Is the system supposed to actually make the car go left or not. Moving me to the left could put me into another car (my fault) or on a 2 lane road it moves me into approaching traffic (also my fault). In these cases I would rather hit the person who did not stop instead of causing a different wreck that would be classified as my fault. In this case the cycle did stop - just 5 feet past the stop sign

According to Lexus’ descriptions of the system online, it only provides warnings and not avoidance. Maybe you felt lane keeping assist.

No - I have lane keep turned off. I guess the "warning" involves shaking the steering wheel

I'll bet the pre-collision system kicked in: "Lexus Safety System+* includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection* that’s engineered to help detect a vehicle or a pedestrian in the path of your Lexus under certain conditions. Should it detect a potential frontal collision, it can help provide steering assistance and/or automatic emergency braking to help mitigate or avoid a collision."

I'll bet the sensors know if there was a car next to you and wouldn't steer you into it.

That makes more sense. it possibly thought the motorcycle was a pedestrian. I would hope all this doesn't kick in when a car goes a few feet past a stop sign. I like the idea of an alert and maybe hitting brakes but do not want any steering help. For steering it has to figure out if the lane is clear or, on a 2 lane road, if steering into opposing traffic is safe. Sorry but I can do this myself

Sounds a bit like ProActive Driving Assist is on. Pg 262 of the manual (pdf version). The concierge that went thru the system with us mentioned turning it off, and leaving it that way.
