Hello everyone I wanted to ask people's opinions on what would be important to them when purchasing an ls460.ill definitely be going for a 2013+ . I've found a few online and I'm really wanting the L trim but have found a few others I really like . I found a nice 460L at a carmax it's a 1 owner with 80k ish miles . Carmax also has a non L with only 23k miles and I've also recently seen a mica with brown interior with only 16k that just popped up today . Would you go after low miles , L certified , the L trim , 1 owner cars or color combination? I am most likely going to be unable to find a local car and will not be able to see it in person . Any advice or opinions welcome, thank you.

We have had our 2010 LS460L for over 10 years now and yes it has most of the bells and whistles to include the upgraded rear seat options. The L is truly a delight to travel in long distances. However the truth is nobody ever enjoys those reclining rear seats because nobody ever is in the back seat. I would say if you find the color combo that trips your trigger in a SWB LS you would be just as happy. We are at 111,xxx miles now with the LS coming off lease back in 2014 with 19,xxx on the clock.

Whatever you do, get a pre-purchase inspection done before you purchase. Whether a Carmax or Lexus dealer, you need to do your due diligence.
Don’t trust any dealer that the car has been fully inspected and all items have been addressed.
Good luck 👍👍

Is there a reason youd suggest to stay away from 2013s? The 2013 i am interested in is at a carmax and I will purchase the maxcare warranty through them which I have heard good things about. Thank you.

It's my understanding 13's had issues but what ever it is it's fixable. No worries there.
Latest models upgraded to wide screens and that worth getting.

That car looks pretty good to me. It's even the color I originally wanted (white gets old fast but I had already spent so much time looking, I never thought I'd find a car as good as the one you are looking at now). Before I bought my 2017 I spent a lot of time looking online. And the first thing I looked at was the condition of the driver's seat. ("Low miles" but the driver's seat says otherwise? Next!) But heck, even the driver's seat of this car looks better than good.
Everybody telling you to get an inspection first are right, I too wasn't really comfortable with buying a car sight unseen - which is why I spent a lot of time looking at Carmax and Carvana but never ended up buying from them.
But this car seems (SEEMS) excellent, in just about everything, it really ticks all the boxes...I would buy it. BUT not without an inspection, by somebody who knows what they are looking at. It is the next best thing to a test drive even if it costs a few hundred dollars.
I'd make sure they have a warranty, and a reasonable return policy if the car turns out too good to be true.

A PPI from an independent dealer or Lexus knowledgeable repair shop is important. I just bought a 2016 SWB 460 from a dealer in FL with 26k miles on the clock. There was a dash warning message flashing related to Headlight System. The dealer's "Certified Mechanic" said it was a "module that needed replacing for $200". Against my better judgment, I bought the car w/o a PPI. The root problem is the headlight has a bad motor that moves the Xenon "eyes" for leveling or active cornering. Online wholesale price for a new headlight is $1,800 (full dealer cost is $2,700!) plus 3-4 hours of labor because the front bumper cover has to be removed to replace the headlight. Will cost me $2,300. Never, ever trust a dealer when it comes to what a car may need re: deferred maintenance or repairs. Buying a car is pure emotions when you are looking at a car that you really want. You must fight these emotions and have the car checked.

Having a thorough PPI done should run between 2-3 hrs and is only as good as the person doing it, you will seldom get negatives if it's done by the seller and can be iffy when done by an independent shop so there really is no winning.
There are no cheap repairs on a 460 and people should know that before purchasing because all cars will need repairs. I always buy one owner cars with low mileage/good interiors and bodies/paint, I can do any mechanical repairs myself so I only have to deal with the cost of parts.
The issues that you will/can have with these cars are pretty well documented on this site so there should be no real surprises but unfortunately it seems like most people look for answers after the purchase and not before.

I'm not sure carmax would let me a get a PPI done by lexus before I purchase but if not I am pretty sure they do have a 7 day return policy. Would you guys recommend a PPI done by the local lexus dealer ?

Depending on your budget, I would go for a 2016 or 17. Those cars have the max tech and full screen. My neighbor has a white 2016 and it's as pretty and current looking as any car.

If carmax won't let you get a PPI from Lexus I'd be hesitant. The only caveat I could think of is extreme distance between the carmax site and the nearest Lexus dealer. Yes I'd recommend a PPI and won't buy a vehicle without one.
