Default 2017 LexusGS350 F Sport - Push Gas Door Stuck Closed

Hi all,

My SIL's 2017 Lexus GS350 F Sport push gas door is stuck closed with all doors unlocked. Pushing around different spots of the gas door did not work, and it acted as if it was still locked (There was no usual ease of pushing in the cap). Both the vehicle trunk release from inside the cabin and the key fob do not work. They have been accessing the gas door through the emergency release in the trunk, but would like to have it fixed (Preferably DIY). I tried looking online for solutions to the issue and through this forum but have found nothing. Just wondering if anyone has been experiencing this problem and had it fixed on their own or could help provide insight on this. Thank you kindly.

Sounds like you need a Fuel Door Spring

I hope it helps you!

Thanks for your reply. I actually stumbled across this video. Sadly the part is not compatible with the 4th gen GS350 (2013-2020).

It looks like for the Lexus 4 GS the entire fuel door assembly is needed. But because the fuel door is permanently glued or epoxied to the fuel filler assembly - that would require that the door would need to be painted to match the vehicle's exterior body color.

I suspect the original fuel filler assembly can be removed and the spring mechanism you see in the images below can easily be fixed. My guess is that the spring came out of the hole (red arrow) you see in the image directly below - probably from someone excessively opening the fuel door too far.

Probably the spring just needs to be loaded and reinserted into the hole. Nevertheless, once the fuel filler assembly is removed it should readily be apparent what the problem is pertaining to the spring, and it should be easy to fix...

You'll notice in the second image there are two Phillips head screws - one that actually holds the spring and the other that can be removed to access the spring hinge area.

  1. INSPECT FUEL LID WITH LOCK MOTOR ASSEMBLY
    1. Check the operation of the fuel lid with lock motor assembly.
OK:
  1. Apply battery voltage to the fuel lid with lock motor assembly connector, and check that the fuel lid with lock motor assembly operates smoothly as follows.
Measurement Condition Specified Condition Battery positive (+) → Terminal 1
Battery negative (-) → Terminal 2 Unlock Battery positive (+) → Terminal 2
Battery negative (-) → Terminal 1 Lock
  1. If the result is not as specified, replace the fuel lid with lock motor assembly.

Thanks for the informative posts everyone. It's the best advice I've found online, no kidding. I'll check out the spring mechanism first and go from there. I'll come back with updates when I am able to have this resolved. Thanks again everyone, it is very much appreciated!
