Default One of the most outrageous vehicle incidents I have ever seen.

Almost 80 MPH, DWI, twice the legal BAC, right into a nail-salon, with complete disregard for human life. 4 dead, several injured. I'm surprised the impact didn't kill HIM. He also had a previous DWI arrest more than 10 years ago.

This has to be one of the most outrageous things I have ever seen behind the wheel. This moron is probably locked up right now awaiting trial, but if I had the physical capability of doing so, I would plant my big size-15 clown-shoe, with a firm force, right up the middle of the part of his body where the sun doesn't shine.

Damn. That is one reason I prefer places a bit more away from the roads or with blocker pillars.....

I think justice is letting the victims and families do what they will with the driver, jail is just free food and housing with no real repayment for those wronged. The whole "justice" system is so pointless since the people wronged never get anything back

Apparantly recent Traverses have some pretty effective safety features. The driver looks like he came out reasonably well in one piece....a lot better than his victims.

awful. how could this POS plead 'not guilty'.

no remorse seemingly, no apology, an obvious drunk, probably planning on taking himself out but why take out innocent people?

Totally unbelievable...

It goes back to my opinion that conviction of a DWI needs to be a very serious crime. They had an opportunity to keep this from happening when he was arrested 10 years ago. Serious jail times, loss of license for protracted periods or forever...if being convicted of one DUI could mean you have to spend 5 years in jail and never be able to drive a car again, people just might think twice.

Agreed. Won't happen though, the best we can hope for is that the judge either applies the harshest allowable sentence (which for Murder 2 in NY would be life without parole) or makes the sentences consecutive (60 years @ minimum 15 years each).

Given that his regular liquor store is right next door to the salon, I actually wonder if his intent was to re-up his supply. Just as big a POS either way.

They won't think twice.
Alcohol impairs the ability to think.

Terrible. Is prosecution the responsibility of Alvin Bragg? It will be interesting to see what happens. This is awful.

This happened not far from my home a few years ago. Tomorrow is not guaranteed and especially not with people like this on the roads.

I agree. If you drink enough alcohol and you are impaired enough. You have no idea what you are doing. A prison term is not a deterrent when in a specific impaired state of mind.

No, this happened in Suffolk County. Bragg is the Manhattan DA.

No, but the 10 years they spend in a prison is 10 years that they can't do it again.

I simply view drunk drivers as subhumans who don't deserve freedom.

That is too lenient. The penalty should be 20 years (or more) and $250,000 fine for a first time offence. (But there is a cost to that as well)

A lot of people don’t feel this way.

Exactly, lock these people up so they can't hurt others.

The fact that you can be just sitting in a nail salon and some jackass like this can just kill you in an instant puts things in perspective

He was brought to court in a wheelchair, so he apparantly did get some injuries from that crash......which is not surprising. He was lucky not to have been killed.
