Default '98 ls400 has weird issues with shifting.

Hi all. I have a '98 ls400 that I bought a couple days ago. Car requires some minor works like new shock absorbers and brake balancing etc. however, there are two issues that I can't understand.
The first one is the transmission issue. The car has been driven 140k something miles. Clean inside and out. No signs of abuse. However, when I start it up and go into reverse to back out of the parking, it does it but when I put it into Drive, it doesn't move. I have to mess around with the throttle and then it jerks into motion with some weird noise. It doesn't do it all the time but it's guaranteed to happen after the first start of the day. Then during slow speed driving at about 20mp/h, the car jerks violently into second gear. This also happens randomly. Is this a transmission issue or one of the bad capacitor issue?
Secondly, the a/c has been serviced recently but it just doesn't seem to be cooling a lot during the day time. It cools but very slightly.
Thanks.

Does it still jerk after it's been warmed up or just whenever you first start driving?

The jerking happens randomly and not necessarily after the first start. The shift into Drive always happens after first startup and letting the car warmup for around 10 minutes and sometimes will happen after I park it for an hour or 2. Sometimes it doesn't occur after I start it up after 2-3 hours after a long drive, then when I park it for 10-15 minutes, it happens again.
