Default Gas mileage GX vs Sequoia

I'm starting to research about the GX460 as I prepare to get a new to me SUV within the next year or so. As I've read some posts about them, I've seen some suggestions to look at a Toyota Sequoia as well. So, then I look at those and one of the things I've looked at is gas mileage. I'm not in this to say I need the most fuel efficient vehicle but it is hard for me to swallow 12 - 13 mpg. What I'm not understanding is why are they saying the GX460 will get 16 - 17 mpg but the Sequoia is more like 12 - 13 mpg. Aren't they basically the same V8 motor? What makes them that much different. I can take 16 - 17 mpg which is was my LS430 was getting but 12 - 13.....not sure I would mentally want to accept that.

460 and previous gen seqouia are not the same v8. seqouia shared the same 5.7L v8 as the previous LC, notoriously poor gas mileage... 12-14 is average for the 5.7L. you can get 16-21 out of the GX460... 21mpg would be flat cruise control in texas going 61 mph... but you can get it because I've gotten it in the past. it averages 18mpg

Expect closer to 15 if mostly driving around DFW. Maybe 18 if driving a bunch on 35 between DFW and Austin etc - but fingers crossed you don't have to drive on that highway hellscape often.

This is basically what I see as well. 16-18mpg for the GX, 12-14 for the LX

When I lived in north Texas I was getting 16-19 average and around 20-22 on the highway. It's not stellar but it is significantly better than the Sequoia.

Thanks. I recently had to give up my LS430 after 9 yrs and 90k miles. I mostly did mixed in city and highway most time, commute from Denton area to Ft. Worth for work, and got 20 - 21 mpg most of the time. If I did all highway, I would get about 24 mpg. Loved it on the highway. Hoping the GX460 would be similar in both feel and mpg.

If you are concerned about fuel economy you shouldn't be looking at any body on frame Toyota or Lexus products. None of them have every gotten class leading fuel economy, or even that great of fuel economy for that matter. But the less frequent trips to dealership for repair sure as hell make up for the extra money spent on fuel vs the competition.
