Trade/Sell or Keep

Trade/Sell or Keep
Hi all. So wanted some advice as I get antsy about getting a new RX. Back story, sold my wife's 2010 IS 3 years ago and bought a 2013 RX 350 one owner that was well maintained. Had 89k miles on it when we purchased it but got hosed on price d/t being in the heart of the pandemic. Had to do it though because we needed the room with two young kids. Bought the car cash and already have a paid off 2014 GX 460 that I am going to ride for at least another 10 years. Anyway, the RX now has 120k on it and still drives amazing. All Im doing is maintenance and no other issues to speak of. I really have absolutely no need to sell it or trade it and realistically could drive it another 8 to 10 years but came across a 2022 F sport in Grecian Blue at the local dealership with 30k miles on it and one owner. Its overpriced, asking 44k for it but thinking if I could get them down 2-3k, along with the trade in and some cash down, OTD price wouldnt be terrible. Its CPO and has 4 years left on warranty with 2 years of covered maintenance. Not interested in moving from the 6 to I4 turbo so 2023 plus is out. Just looking from a long term perspective is it worth it to get out now and secure a newer vehicle I could drive for the next 15 plus years or just ride my baby until the wheels fall off. I really dont want another car payment but trying to look at all options. Thanks for the replies.

I would hold onto what you have. Keep up with the oil changes and if you have not done the series of three consecutive measured ATF drain-and-fills, do that now and repeat every 40,000 to 50,000 miles. It is very easy to do -- the step-by-step instructions are posted on the forum. If you decide to replace your shocks, the Bilstein B4 or B6 is best depending upon what type of ride you prefer. Plenty of information here on the forum about that as well. Your factory Denso iridium spark plugs will easily do 150,000 miles (and some folks take them to 200,000 miles with no issues).
I'm right there with you on not wanting one of these things with a 4-banger turbo. My wife's daily driver is a 2015 RX350 coming up on 104,000 well-cared-for miles and I hope to keep her in it for many years to come. Whenever she starts itching for a newer one (she has had a 2000 RX300, a 2004 RX330, and now her 2015 RX350), I just remind her that we are not going to find one that has been as well-maintained as hers has been.

If you are antsy for a new ride, and it already sounds like you are, then settling for keeping the older one will not make you happy. Technologically and in the comfort department, the 22 is nicer than the 13.
I would take a test drive, but have your checkbook or loan arrangements ready.
Here is Car & Driver Magazine's review of the 2022 F Sport. They were not wild about it, but Lexus did some suspension improvements that year which should improve the handling and ride.

I personally pay cash for my cars and put lots of miles on them before I sell. (Usually 150-180K)
Why finance when you can put that money/interest to work for you for like retirement investments etc.
Remember, a car is a depreciating investment. To get the most value you need to maximize the mileage and time owned till it doesn't make sense any longer.
My wife has a 2013 RX with 157K miles and still going strong.
I have a 2010 RX for my duagter with 120K miles on it. She is 23 this month and is an RN making good money living home, so she can buy her own next car and pay for her own insurance and taxes which I pay for now.
My LS500 has 71K miles and is not going anywhere soon.
I buy Lexus, for its reliability so can maximize the value.
This is my decision and thought process even though I can afford new cars much quicker and luckily my family is practical as well.
So no, I would not upgrade at your point.
Again my decision.

2013 RX with 120K miles, well maintained, dependable, barely just past the broken in stage with at least another 150K miles left on her, no car payment. I like the setup and would keep it. But, with that said, your wife is the one who will likely have a say. Good luck with your decision.

when I have a car like my 2013 RX which has never needed a single repair (fingers crossed) I just enjoy it as long as it remains reliable....but I agree with others, sounds like you've been bitten by the New(er) Car Bug which I understand...

There are couple of points of inflection some are based on milage and some are based on time for each brand/model/vehicle.
Well established are expiration of warranty [50-60k miles], extended warranty [100K miles] ... these are well established-published miles along with time 4yr 7yrs etc.
Next inference is major service which are like multiples of 60K miles with exception of around 100K.
Then there is the individual vehicle where you start noticing leaks, frequent visits to workshop [fix one thing and another thing breaks in close succession].
At all the above points, owner needs to access the question to keep or sell/trade.
A general rule is keep the vehicle as long as you can. If you paid extra at time of purchase [either brand new or market driven], the more it makes sense to stretch it out.
Then there is the bug or attraction of a new(er) vehicle. Technically it only makes sense if it provides more safety, essential features (desire based) and finally any discovered model based issues.
One is entitled to make decision that are happiness based and not purely financial. Absolutely no sense in being unhappy in life.
