front door speaker replacement
hi every,
new to me 07 rx350. equipped with base audio (no nav no ML). both of the door speakers are blown, and I would like to replace.
I'm pretty technical, but I've never replaced speakers before, and I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the options.
I connect my phone via a bluetooth transmitter, so quality is already not great. In an ideal world, I would like a nice sound system but I think thats kind of out of the window with needing to use a transmitter. What's the cheapest/decent way I should go about replacing my door speakers? I see people saying if I replace the door, I need to either buy a certain type of speaker, or replace the tweeters as well, but I'm not sure at all.
Also, are there any better ways to connect my phone to the car besides an ugly aftermarket radio? thanks

I read your thread a few times trying to figure out your asking/wanting. Decent= I'd go w/ seperates= mids & tweets in the factory location. Cheap= low end seperates. Your sound quality is only as good as your music mix. Last time I installed a system in one of my cars, I used JBL mids & tweets & a bass w/ 3 JBL amps hooked to a Pioneer deck, yrs ago. If your replacing your speakers, Why not replace the mids & tweets in the factory location? vs just a couple of mids? Wouldn't you want to do it right the first time? I'd be checking out JBL's myself, as thats what I had yrs ago. There possibly is better speakers out there, IDK. I'm sure there are a few different head units out there, that fit & work great. If your replacing the head unit, I'd be swapping out all the speakers, mids, tweets & bass as well as the amp. My last car had a 10 speaker Beats audio which did the job,so w/ that, I'd start w/ replacing all the speakers(mids/tweets/bass) w/ good quality speakers w/ the oem amp/deck as that'd make a big difference.

Front door only speaker upgrade for 2005 RX330
I just did this to my 2005 RX330 without Mark Levinson Audio System; without DVD Entertainment System; without Navigation system. I have the base AM/FM cassette player with 6 cd changer in front with the base amp in the rear. Obviously, your 2007 RX350 might be different. I am not an expert. This is just what I did with my limited knowledge and understanding. One possible mistake I made was getting 4 ohm speakers instead of 2 ohm speakers, but it's unclear if that is actually a mistake. According to another member in one of the linked threads all speakers in these RXs have a different impedance! I posted links to other threads where folks get very in depth about all of this. I am happy with the upgrade.
You did not specify front or back door speakers needing replacement so I will assume front. Front speakers are three way component speakers with the woofers in the door, tweeters in the pillar, and mid range in the dash. I bought a two way component system and only installed the woofer as the bass was bothering me but the mids and highs are fine. If you know ALL SIX FRONT speakers are dead you can buy a three way component system and replace them all (good luck if that's what you need to do!)

But if it's just the front door speakers you can do what I did. You only need two things: the speakers and the speaker adapter, but you WILL want the wiring adapter AND the foam tape. The wiring adapter makes the install so much easier than cutting off the factory connectors and crimping or soldering new connectors (plus possible polarity pitfalls.) The foam tape makes the sound more better, especially if you put it on BOTH SIDES of the speaker adapter ; )

One of the easiet options as far as replacement is concerned would be to use the PowerBass OE692-TY. It is designed to replace the OEM speaker in several different models of recently manufactured Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles. Basically you just remove the door panel, remove the old speakers, install the new ones and then remount the door panels. If you order these from Crutchfield, you should get instructions for this job.
