The battery icon lighted up in RED 2 days ago. Used a multimeter on the battery terminals when the car was running: no charge at 11.82 volts. The sticker on the alternator:


I did not found a match for the same Denso Alternator. Any recommendations for an OEM replacement?

You can check with on line Lexus parts but OEM is going to be fairly expensive. Many times the part number has been superseded, so don't try to match with the old number.

Re-man are available, but I prefer serving on my own. Rectifier, voltage controller and brushes can be easily replaced. Bearings may need pressing in/out. If the winding is burnt only then a replacement is necessary.

There are two types of alternators, regular and high output. Take your vin number to be sure.

Probably can't find a Denso reman because they are not being produced anymore. Can always go OEM reman

If you have the 100 amp the 130 amp is a direct fit, a nice upgrade.

The RX with the "Towing Prep Package" had a high output alternator and high capacity battery. My RX (with Towing Prep Package) battery and alternator were replaced with the regular versions many years ago and I haven't had any issues.

Thank you LeX2K. I ordered a DENSO REM 12V130A unit on Parts Geek, for $259.97 (including a $77 core charge), plus a $11 S&H and $15.52 tax.

I will go with your suggestion of a "towing" alternator. What is the spec for a "towing" battery?

There isn't one same battery regardless of options/package.

What is the properly way to remove the single-pole terminal's plastic cap?

It is a snap on [witness the snap ring]. With age and heat it might not be pliable and might break. Try squeezing around and use flat screw driver to lift up.

Note: Please don't hold me responsible if it breaks.

While waiting for the penetrating oil to work its magic, here are the photos of the Denso REM 12V130A alternator from Parts Geek:

Salim is right: using a flat-head screw drive I plied off the plastic cap and broke the plastic edge on the terminal seat on the (old) alternator. Looking at the plastic cap, it is not designed for easy release from the terminal.

I got the upper mounting bolt (14mm socket) and the tension bolt (12mm socket) loose; I am struggling with the lower mounting bolt (12mm socket) which doesn't budge - the spot is so tight there it is difficult to get the right wrench into there to work effectively. It is also impossible to get penetrating oil spray into the back end of this lower mounting bolt.

Any suggestions about removing the lower mounting bolt?
