Dye Test for AC Issues - 2004 ES330
I have a 2004 Lexus es330 with 167,000 miles on it. It is a nice (secondary) car but it has an AC issue. Wondering if anyone in the group can help me diagnose what is going on?
- the car has a musty smell even after deep cleaning and running the ozone machine
- I have noticed damp carpets mainly on the drivers side. The insulation mats under the carpet were also very wet.
- The AC drain plug is dry with no water under the car. No water came out when I ran weed eater string into it to remove debris.
- I did a dye test and recharge. The refrigerant gauge was actually in the green and I charged a little more (but didn't over charge.)
- unfortunately, during the recharge the clip from the low pressure line to the cabin (see photo with red circle) fell off. I think it was half off anyway.

I don't see any indication of a refrigerant leak. Wet carpet mostly likely means clogged sunroof drains especially since there is water on the drivers side the A/C system won't do that.
