sunroof tilt stuck up!
Victory this issue resolved!!!! see my post further down
I just had a victory, I cleaned the mirror switch plug and the drivers side mirror can now be adjusted.
Then I was sitting in the car and it was hot so I tilted the sunroof up.
It stuck up and will not come down or retract.
I took apart the light and switches in the hope that it was another faulty switch but its clean. I greased the connections in the panel and returned.
The sunroof fuse is good. I then went to check to see if the garage door opener light came on and it isn't when pushed.
I am wondering if there is another fuse that is responsible for sunroof function and the garage door openers?
Its going to rain so we will see how well the design does for weather protection.
Any good ideas? I need to get a manual for this car. does Clymer have one?
started tearing down the parts to replace the coils and replace the radiator. Installed the break sensor earlier. easy install brake system. I don't like gremlins I much prefer parts and mechanical.
Toyota makes a solid vehicle and I like the fit and function of their designs.
thanks,
Ian

The sunroof didn't let any rain in last night. It looks like it caught it.
the fix did not work, I will look for a fuse today. At least its not the sunroof stuck open just the tilt.

I believe its a fuse or its the electronics of the switch. I am going to buy a used switch assembly (overhead console switch)
I think the homelink being out is a clue.

What I have learned so far.
If you want to manually close a sunroof that is tilted up.
disconnect motor gears from belt and the window will close easily.
Just unplug electrical plug from assembly and then remove two 10 mm bolts and the motor drops down out from between the two belts.
If you want to check the motor remove small screws and then open.,
underneath you will see a circuit board. unscrew and then pull off.
It will expose a positive and negative from the motor. I jumped them and my motor ran smoothly and quietly.
I believe it is a power issue either to the switch or the motor. the homelink not working leads me to believe its on the switch. I am getting a wiring schematic to do a step by step to find the issue. I don't know if the lights and the switch board uses the same power?
The sunroof is closed and I am going to figure this out. I love a working sunroof. Almost as good as a motorcycle. but not.

2001 w 162K
2001 with 162k its a mechanics special. I have always wanted one and I was looking at an 2005 with low miles but this mechanics special came up at 1/7 th the price.
It runs so well and after I get the sunroof and stereo working this car is going to be awesome.
The new coils and plugs made it a new machine. the cooling system works well and I just did an oil change.
Getting all the little issues out of the way. main thing it runs well and I am really happy with the car.

I cant thank you enough for these posts!
between the schematic and the trouble shooting steps I can find the problem.
I will spend some time on it tomorrow!! thank you so much.
I had to run out and get a bill of sale forgot when I picked the car up.
Who's happy about restoring a 16 year old car? ( this guy )
Thanks again,
Ian

It was fuses!!!
the previous owner put a 7.5 fuse in the 25 slot. I replaced the blown 7.5 with another 7.5 and assumed it was now good to go.
Problem when I went to operate the fuse blew immediately.
Since I thought it was a new fuse and I had replaced it I never rechecked.
RkW77080 supplied everything I needed to resolve but I did not follow a methodical approach.
$184 dollars at Fife lexus and I am back in action with a working sunroof and a wonderfully washed and clean car.
They charged me for three fuses $28
It is a relief to know the problem and to have the sunroof working again.
I also learned something from the experience. be more methodical and double check the information you think is foundational.
If you have a blown fuse and you replace it double check it to see if it reblew.
