I use 5W-30 dino from Castrol. Change it every 5K miles and have had no issues through the 4 seasons we have here in NY.

Lexus says you can use 5W-30, 5W-20 or 0W-20 in the 5th gen ES350.

Interesting - would you cite the source from where that chart came from?

The information I have is from a 2011 Toyota bulletin, granted things may have changed since then. What's curious is where 0w-20 is permissible and not permissible for the 2GR-FE across the models (Lexus is also a 2GR-FE, though what variant is the question). For example, it's permissible in the 2012 Camry and Venza but not the Avalon.

I don't have the original source. There was a thread a few years back where it was posted and I made a copy. It looks similar to the Toyota one that is an attachment on this thread:

OK thanks, but as seen in the Toyota bulletin I posted previously, it's not as simple as "Just find a Toyota vehicle with the same model engine as your Lexus" as stated in the posting of that thread, given the variances seen in the use of 0w-20 in the 2GR-FE across Toyota models.

I'll continue to be of the position 'caveat emptor' in the use of 0w-20 until I see something more specific to the 2GR-FE variant in the Lexus.

Every 6 months, oil is cheap. Good time to look around for issues underneath the car also.

just use 5w30 like it says in the manual. That’s why they give you one so you can follow it

Yup, I think people also forget that the 2GR-FE has it's own lifecycle, and one built in 2007 is NOT the same engine as one built in 2012, heck, the 2GR-FE in the ES350 may not even be the same sub-model to the one put into the Avalon, so the recommendations for one engine in one vehicle model do not carry across to the "same" engine in another vehicle model.

Go with what the book says, oil is cheap, engine shortblocks are not, don't gamble with your engine.
