Default Oil Change At Toyota Dealer?

Oil change at Toyota dealer?
I have a 2014 GS350 AWD with 29K. My Lexus dealer quoted me their oil change price as being "around $190" with full synthetic 0-20. I'm old, on a fixed income, so I thought about going to a Toyota dealer for the oil change service. The filter part # is listed as a Toyota/Lexus part 04152-YZZA5 and the 0-20 oil is also labeled Toyota. I am not going to a quick-change Jiffy Lube type business, so I thought I would ask a Toyota dealer for a price. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

$190 for only oil change is a total ripoff. U shouldn't pay more than 120 at a Lexus dealer for it.

Even better, any chance you can DIY? All you need is a couple of ramps and some simple tools, it'll save you a bundle over the span of a few years.

Also, check the dealers website, often dealers run specials on service items, oil changes included.

@rk1972 - Find an Indy shop (independent mechanic shop) in your area that does maintenance and repairs on various brands of foreign vehicles (e.g. BMW, M-B, Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover, etc.) including Lexus and Toyota.

I had mine done at a reputable private shop for about that same price but that included a wash and vacuum, full checks of literally everything that needed servicing as well as the replacement of lost screws and bolts for the under carriage body covers which were missing or loose. They also let me walk underneath it so I could see first hand what condition everything was in. I didn’t need a wash as I never take a car to a shop w/o it being perfectly clean inside and out. They remarked at how clean the car was and discounted the price. I may even try for the 10,000 mile oil change next time.

The parts are the same. Oil is oil if it meets the spec.

Personally, I do all my own maintenance as I enjoy accomplishing something since in my former life so many projects drug on to the point of just being glad to be done with them that there was no sense of completing something.

I will second the finding of a reputable independent shop in your area. They will do you as good a service and you will be supporting the local little guys.

No, I'm 75 and have had back surgeries, so DIY is not going to happen, thank you though.

Buy the Toyota filter, take it to Walmart auto service. Low cost oil change. Check the oil level before you leave.

I use Toyota for service I don't want to do. Look for their service coupon specials.

Why do you recommend checking the oil before leaving?

I personally wouldn't trust Walmart auto service to wash my windshield. Have you seen some of the people Walmart hires?

There's no way I am going to let a just hired high school dropout drug addict with glassy eyes and rotten teeth that doesn't know the engine oil drain plug from a transmission fluid drain plug change my engine oil and filter...

Teach your kids how to do it. That's their job, not yours anymore.

@rk1972 You can certainly take it to a Toyota dealership - for an oil change, the difference will be in a less fancy customer facing facility and fewer free coffee, bagels and comfy couches compared to Lexus. The price should be around $75 at a Toyota dealership. Here are a few places where you can see published prices/discounts in the PA area:

https://www.ardmoretoyota.com/oil-change.html
https://www.toyotaofscranton.com/ser...d-coupons.html

My preferred Lexus dealership will match any other published Lexus dealer's special (in the same state) for oil changes and service specials. The most i've paid is $125 for a synthetic oil change was at Lexus which included a car wash, multi-point inspection and a few high carb pastries!

I have a 16 camry xse and a 15 gs350. Very similar procedure for both. I do all mine still at 76 with bad back. A toyota dealer can do it for sure. My local toyota dealer is quite good.

Considering the cost will be spread out over months or years @ 5,000-10,000 mile intervals, having it done correctly by a pro doesn’t seem too high of a price to pay.

Here in Sweden the pipe smokers at Toyota seriously charged $140 for a 5L jug of 0w20.
I just laughed and thought they were joking. Nope. Put it back on the shelf, ain’t buying that.

I changed mine the other day, $45 with Toyota filter and Mobil 1. The day I can't change my oil is the day I probably stop driving.
