Secret to remove OEM wiper bade for replacement
Help! I ordered new Lexus OEM wiper blades and can't figure out how to remove the old blades. It looks simple enough - just lift the tab covering the slot where the arm inserts into the wiper blade, push the old blade down towards the base of the arm about an inch and lift the old blade off when the hook portion of the arm is back in the wiper blade insert hole. I can't get the old blade to slide down so that the arm gets in the insert hole. This should be easy and simple - what's the secret?

No, the current blades are identical to the new blaades that I've got. Also, I have the wipers positioned upwards on the windshield by shutting off power while they are at top of wiping motion. I've looked at the U-tube videos. I've opened the insert door tab on the old wipers and tried to slide the old blade downward so the arm hook is positioned in the slot in the wiper blade, but it will only move about a sixteenth of an inch, not enough to get into the slot.

I don't know if I could just have replaced the rubber insert. It was a whole assembly so that is what I replaced. There was a right and a left. As a rule the LS does not get driven in the rain unless we are on a road trip. So that was the first time I replaced the wiper blades since we bought the car when it came off lease with 19K on the clock in 2014.

Dredging up an old post to say that, after 15 years, but only ~61k miles, I'm replacing the wiper inserts ... FOR THE FIRST TIME! It currently has the original wipers, blades, inserts on the car. And yes, the old inserts are tearing. The car has only been in the rain maybe 5 to 10 times.
I'm getting it spruced up for an 1,100 mile trip from south Atlanta metro, to Newport, RI where my son is in Navy OCS. Going up for graduation. It's a couple more months out, but never hurts to get ready early.
And I'm going to replace the cabin air filter for the first time also. I have to look up the procedure that prevents some tab from getting broke off. Glad I'm able to remember that. Seems like you access the filter with the system in RECIRC to prevent bending / breaking something. FWIW...
