Hi all -
Good firend just got a 96 GS300 with 72,000 miles.
We are having an idle and hesitation problem:
The idle is erratic - it falters from around 700-800 then drops down to maybe 400 for a few seconds, then goes back up.
Also, we are experiencing hesitation when we accelerate through about 3500 rpm. at about 4000 rpm, we get a good kick in the pants, and the acceleration is strong and smooth thereafter.
Several notes: The check engine light is on - we have not got a diagnosis on it yet (haven't had the time to drive an hour to the dealer!). We have changed the oil/filter and run Valvoline fuel injector cleaner through a full tank of gas. We have also used throttle body cleaner spray.
We are planning on changing to a K&N filter this weekend, along with replacing the fuel filter, plugs and wires.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance!

I would first go strait to the check engine light. You really
have to address it before the vehicle can be properly diagnosed. Based on the vehicle it is most likely to be a EGR problem. Code 71. Pop the hood and get a paper clip and jump terminals e1 and te1 on the diagnostic port. Watch the check engine light and it will blink with the code. You will see the light blink followed by a brief pause and then it will blink again. So if it blinks seven times pauses and blinks once more you have a code 71.
Good Luck
