Okay....let me elaborate...

The main things I like about vB3 is:

- user-defined user text (the tag between your avatar and your handle)
-the threadlist/thread/post formatting is much cleaner and more pleasant to look at for hours on end
- html fields in the reply field allowing you to view attached images, smilies, and rich-text as you enter it
- mouseover preview of thread content while in the threadlist
- counts the thread views and not the page views within the thread (more accurate gauge)
- amazing back-end (server-side) flexibility and control for webmaster, admin, mods, and even users
- smart-edit posting

......and I'm sure there are much more features and benefits to vB3 that I don't even know about or am forgetting about.

* Oh and the smilies thing: there are a few dozen smilies that I could add to our index that would make interacting between members a lot more enjoyable and expressive. I'm also referring to the fact that our "agree" smilie is actually a smilie head thrusting it's hips because it was actually intended to express a "boink" or "hump" smilie. Yes it's sexual and I chuckle everytime I see someone use it as agreement. Also the "overhere" smilie is impossible for a lay user to use because it ends up forming a different smilie with letters behind it. Example:

Definitely agree. SOrry, lost this post in all the stuff moved from the photoshop forum in transit.

VB 3 is part of the upgrade we've got currently going on now

I'll add the smiley fix to the requirements doc to make sure we look at it.

Dave, one thing I just realized, when we upgrade to vB 3, are our posts gonna be restricted like they are on supraforums where only posts in certain areas "count" to your total? I really don't like how they do that over there, or actually I don't know if they use version 3, but just a concern for when we upgrade.

No concerns, post counts will stay the same for forums.

We can do that with the current version of vBulletin we have now. It's a configuration choice for the administrator to set.

HOWEVER, it's not the post count that matters IMO, it's the quality of your posts .
