We can but probably won't.

Give me some examples where you need to post something less than 10 characters that is meaningful for others to read? Not many times - and it eliminates a lot of the smiley replies that do nothing but add to a post count.

Bottom line - if you're going to reply, say something (or rather something plus one character or punctuation since its only nine characters )

I hear ya, but if you really have to do a ' you can also do a that looks great or 'thank you!!'

I know it can be a little bit of a pain, but IMO (in moderators opinion) its worth it to reduce the amount of fast replies with no useful content.

Thanks for the suggestion - not trying to be difficult but the moderator group reviewed new features when we first upgraded and most thought it was a useful feature we wanted to keep turned on.

Also, it discourages people from posting in old posts that either are dead or irrelevant today. Many web forums have this feature.

It also prevents "post whoring". We don't have many if any of those threads here (its when a thread is started and people just reply and hit submit as much as possible).
