Got the system recharged because it was out of freon. They put the dye in it to see where it was leaking from. It lasted about a freaking week and then no more cold air. I have to take it back to the mechanic to see what is the deal.
For some reason I have been getting this foul smell coming from the A/C once the freon ran out. I mean like something died in there. I have checked and cleaned the area where the filter goes. So I don't know what the smell is.
Again, if anybody knows a good A/C tech please let me know.
I am in Orlando and willing to drive for an honest mechanic.
Thanks

Any sight of the dye? You know you can buy Freon or 134a, gauge, hose to test your system from AutoZone for 20bucs. I think I seen a kit with 1 big bottle, one hose, and pressure gauge for 22 bucs at discount auto parts. You can get ones with the sealer compound, it might help.
If that doesn’t help, you might need to check your lines completely to determine where it’s leaking. If nothing can be found, you can take it even a step further and check the O rings on the compressor.
When the A/C was on for the week it was blowing cold, was it acting normal? Did you lose cool temp gradually or all of the sudden?
I once had a problem with an older car, where the refrigerant would leak out over the winter periods (when A/C was off) and I would just recharge it for 10bucs every summer, which saved me a whole lot then to replace the compressor for $500+.
Oh yeah, and don’t let anyone fill your 134a for $30, $40, $50, because it should only cost you 5bucs a bottle if you already have the $5 hose.

Just found out the dye is coming out of the evaporator and a hose connecting to the compressor. It looks like I found someone that can do the job.
Does anybody have any idea on how much should it cost to replace the evaporator?
Thanks
