Exclamation 6th Annual Tail of the Dragon Meet! Quick Poll

Hello everyone!!
It is that time to get ready for our annual Lex run and SLAY THE DRAGON!!

I have one question before I book a date. In the past we have stayed at the Microtel Inn. Would you be interested in staying at a cabin this year?

It would be different from the past and we would be able to hang out together in a large cabin, bar-b-que, jump in the hot tubs etc....

Or we can continue to stay at the Microtel, which has been good to us.

Please VOTE ON THE POLL!!!
In two weeks, I will post up the Dragon date and info!! Thanks.

Hey folks,

Just posted up some videos from the Car wash, start of the drive, and the Dragon(TN->NC) on YouTube.com

Car wash

Pre-start gathering @ tree of shame

Dragon TC -> NC

Please enjoy... if you have any other footage perhaps I can edit it / sound track it and maybe make a DVD....

Lemme know what you think!

Mike, thanks for posting and organizing this year

One thing that may be useful for input into this decision is to post up some examples of the cabins and look at the difference in lodging cost $$ and local amenities. The food options around the Microtel are somewhat limited and certainly not 5 diamond, lol. But once you get into a cabin (depending on location) you may not have any food options other than DIY (groceries), no local gas, car wash, etc.

Were you thinking the Tapoco (where we ususally stop for lunch) or other spots? Links?

Okay here is my idea.
We rent a cabins together (near Bryson City), within walking distance here

Here is a map of the Dragon.

Looks fairly simple. And we would have fun roads to and from the dragon. There is an Ingles I would say 15-20 min away...

Your thoughts?

I am sure the couples want rooms but these cabins sleep twice to 3 times as many. SO the single guys can sleep on the sofabeds they have and everyone chip in to keep the prices low.

With my calculations, we would come out just as if we stayed at the Microtel....

Some arrive Friday, some Saturday. We would have a meet point Saturday before we go on the Dragon. Dave I think still has it at the Tapoco Lodge.

Hey Mike, i stayed in the watershedcabins last year for my B-day.. I really don't think you want to drive the lexus up those gravel roads on the side of the mountain .. We stayed right by the Natahala River.. I beleive Dave knows where that is.. Just an FYI...

So, in other words, it WON'T coincide with Memorial Day Weekend this year?

I am thinking of moving it up b/c many have other commitments on Memorial Day weekend. Cabin is just about dead, b/c of access. We have lowered cars, most RWD, so they might be a total pain to drive up to a cabin...

I will post definite date/lodging info my MOnday.

Thanks everyone.

Do you know that all the cabins are only accessible by steep gravel roads?

They look awesome.
