Default Recommendation for Independent Lexus / Toyota Mechanic in Charlotte Area

I had someone ask me if I knew of any alternatives to local dealerships for Lexus mechanic work - specifically replacing a transmission on an RX300 (or RX330, not sure which). I typically do my maintenance at the dealership or larger stuff at a specialty performance shop outside of the area.

I had some friend ask around and the only trustworthy one they knew of recently relocated to NY.

Anyone have other recommendations?

Sorry dave, all of my work is done in my garage since I have two ASE mechanics living with me. But for the alternator, it is a simple job really. All you really need to do is loosen the bolt on the bracket that holds the alternator on to loosen the tension then it is simply slip the belt off and then remove the alternator and reverse the order.

Vu, they're looking for transmission replacement - a little more involved.

hahaha... I don't know what I was reading when I responded to your post. I guess I shouldn't read two different forums at once. But as for the transmission, what is wrong with it? Is it a transmission swap which involves switching out the defective one and reinstalling a new one or does it involved a transmission rebuild?

I think it's shot and they are hoping to replace with another tranny.
