Geez, I live in NC and it's still 360 mi. to Cherokee.
The family has nothing scheduled for me, but like the man said:
"don't ever take sides with anyone against the family".

Deal's Gap? I remember reading a news story a few years ago
about how the Tennessee and NC Governors got together to
outlaw motorcycle traffic on that stretch of road...there were
15-20 biker deaths in 2 years.

I've been over that way a few times...Camping at Clingman's
Dome and the Joyce Kilmer National Forest.

Those roads are really something. Let's be careful out there....

Yeah, but with the HP and Torque #s I saw at SRT for your GS, that time should be cut in about half.

Paddy - yah it's very tough finding a 'central' location to suit all. We ended up picking the location also based on what it offers - a great driving location, great scenery and (as a plus) a casino for some evening entertainment.

Cherokee is:
175 miles from Charlotte, NC
160 miles from Atlanta, GA
75 miles from Knoxville, TN
300 miles from Roanoke, VA
190 miles from Winston-Salem, NC
290 miles from Goose Creek, SC

You are correct - we'll take it easy on the drives and be smart. You can have plenty of fun on these roads at 25 / 30 mph.

I'm in, unless i can't get away from college (damn, now that i think about it, that will SUCK if i can't go). Some of my dads friends took their porsche's and what not and they loved it (one of them has like a carrerra X (it cost like $110,000-$120,000) and he got motion sickness from all the turns.....none the less, he beat out all the vette's, etc.). But, I'll be here in Roanoke, VA so if anyone from VA is going, lemme know and we can all meet up somewhere and cruise down there together

MyLexusSC300:

If you can make it w/ school and no one else is coming down (I think there is someone else nearby in Blacksburg, VA), you can meet up with us in Charlotte and drive with us.

Oncloud - we're doing the event in NC this time, may be a good little drive for you (but heck, what better way to get to know your new GS ).

Bit -

Will be working on getting hotel discount info this weekend. Two places I plan to call (among others) are Harrah's and the Tapoco Lodge which is right at the start of the drive ('tail of the dragon'), so you can use their address as a destination in Mapquest.

http://www.harrahs.com/our_casinos/c...tel_rooms.html
http://www.tapocolodge.com/index.html

I'm not sure what kind of prices or availability we'll get on these yet, so don't get set on them unless you want to (we may look for cheaper livin').

Also check the links in my detailed post above for some locality info and maps. To target the general area, use Mapquest to go from ATL to Cherokee, NC which is in the general area. A general map of the road -> http://www.dickson.net/doc/gap/html/gap-map.shtml

I need to get a tentative count of people interested (if you are reading this and haven't posted or PM'd me, please do so!). Posted also at IS300.Net and Krista is going to invite some of her NSX brethern as well. This is the kind of drive both of those should really enjoy.
