Touring Joara 2015
On Saturday October 3rd, join automotive enthusiasts from all over the Southeast touring North Carolina mountains and foothills. “Touring Joara 2015” is a non-competitive auto journey that benefits the Exploring Joara Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports public archaeology in the Catawba and Yadkin river valleys.
Follow in the footsteps of explorers and patriots while enjoying some of North Carolina’s most scenic, historic, and challenging roads (including Hwy 181 and 226 A – aka the Diamondback).
Registration and check in is from 7:30 – 8:45 AM / Exploring Joara Presentation 8:45 / Driver’s Meeting 9:10 am. All of the $25 fee per car supports the Foundation’s work. Tour vehicles roll out at 9:30 sharp. The tour begins at the Catawba Meadows Park, 701 Sanford Dr. Morganton, NC and ends at South Creek Vineyards & Winery, 2240 South Creek Rd. Nebo, NC. “Touring Joara” poker hand prizes will be awarded at 3:30 PM at the Winery.
Come early to learn about Exploring Joara Foundation’s new living history center and two reproductions of Native American houses (circa. 1567) with a stockade fence and a garden under construction. This project is ongoing and will eventually include a museum to house artifacts and an archeology trail. Plan to have lunch at the Winery and enjoy delicious BBQ (from Poor Man BBQ & More) and world class wines in a welcoming ambiance at a historic century plus Renaissance Farmhouse.
