Default Cost of living in Texas...

So there's a company that called me up out of the blue to interview me and before I start an interview process, I want to get a little more insight on what it costs to live there so who better to ask than my ClubLexus brothers and sisters?

It's a software company in Austin, Texas.

Anyone live in Austin? What can you tell me about it?

Thanks!

I can tell you that Austin is a nice place... ton of cops... lot's of weirdo's (keep austin weird is the slogan) but all around a nice techy town. From what I understand it's not the cheapest place to live though. I'm not really that helpful though, I have friends who live there and some family, but I'm in Houston. GL with the potential new job.

Plus if you move down here we can kick it haha.

maybe speedaddic can put his input into Austin since he moved here from Cali

I know that Texas continues to have one of the most affordable housing markets in the country! That alone could make it worth the move. I just moved from Virginia to Birmingham AL last year and our life style has changed for the better.

Texas overall has a low cost of living but Austin has one of the highest costs of living in the state. All these tech people coming from Cali has driving all the prices up. It is a very fun city though, especially if you like live music.

Austin is one of the more (if not most) expensive cities in Texas to live in. However it is a great city and is fairly inexpensive compared to most other states.

These guys pretty much nailed it. Im from dfw, but my cousin moved to Austin not too long ago to work with one of those tech companies. Its definately cheaper than cali, not sure how it compares to AZ though. From what I can tell it is on the expensive side as far as TX is concerned though. You might look into housing prices etc. for the area where the company is located to get a better idea of what it would cost you.

Hey! Im from Austin too! I just moved here a year ago from California. I definitely love Austin, looks like I will be staying here for awhile. Crime rate is low, people are friendly, cost of living isnt that crazy compared to California. I have a bunch of friends who are starting their family here in Austin, and it makes it way easier. Austin is growing right now, slowly but surely.. I think now is the right time to move and buy properties because im sure in a couple of years, property will just appreciate really good! Keep us posted on your decisions! Good luck!

Good Luck with the move if you deside to go to Austin! Austin is really a fun, laid back city. It is way cheaper than California! If my wife and I didn't have such great jobs here in Houston we would move there in a heartbeat!
