Default Dustball Rally 1000 out of El Paso, TX

My brother and I did this last year in his GS400 and it was a great time. It's kind of late but there is still a week or two to join. The website is Dustballrally.com and the cost is $280 and that includes a nice hotel room. I'm in no way affiliated with this just enjoyed it last year and am looking forward to it this year. If you have any questions I can most likely help with the answer from experience. This year it will be a two day 700 mile cross country gimmick rally (scavenger hunt).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

*** VERY LITTLE TIME LEFT TO JOIN THE DUSTBALL RALLY! ***

The Feeling:
Imagine you are on the Dustball Rally and far along on your voyage, having spent some time traversing the route, everything your life was begins to fade away and the rally seemingly becomes your new life. Other ralliers become your new friends, and the open road becomes your new home. . . and suddenly a rush comes over you that nothing is more important than finishing successfully, this feeling of freedom is the spirit of the open road. . .

Back again and better than ever, the 2008 Motorsport event of the year is upon us. A larger staff, fantastic list of sponsors, and plenty of open road will make this event one to remember. Only 35 teams will comprise this year's grid, and most slots are already either reserved or paid in full. Plenty of veteran Dustballers are returning for yet another beat-down along the all-new scenic route. Being a true test of vehicle capability and character, scavenger hunters will have plenty of time to get to know one another during this friendly gimmick rally.

The Game:
A gimmick rally is traditionally a non-competitive entry level event that, in our case, quickly becomes a highly competitve, but still a friendly game. Almost any person with the right equipment and skills can become a master sleuth and figure out the gimmicks set forth, the only difference being technique. Spirit is key in our event, so don't be afraid to show off the "other" you. Solving seemingly mediocre puzzles brings an adrenal rush of exictement when you are in the presence of 30+ teams playing the same game.

Traveling through approximately 1000 roundtrip miles of paved roadways, participants will be faced with several challenges along the way. A magnitude of stops are required to locate clues & gimmicks; their purpose is sometimes to find out the direction to the next stop, and other times to gain a gimmick answer correctly. But be forewarned, this gimmick rally is tried and tested very well before scavenger hunters are sent on their way -- The answers to all clues can only be found by following the designated route, and improper speed can often cause you to overlook them.

The Rules:

The rules are simple, other than basic regulations as set forth in our Terms & Conditions. This is not just any rally, it's the Dustball Rally, the single largest organized scavenger hunt in the nation. It has its own camera crews, photographers, volunteers, and staff -- all of this assembled for the sheer enjoyment of sharing the open road with friends and strangers during a two-day mission.

Being a friendly non-competitive hunt (haha), among peers that also enjoy motorsport, it is imperative that it is enjoyed to the fullest extent that is allowed by law. Friendly pranks, gags, misdirection, etc. is more than welcomed and scores bigger in the spirit department. Other miscellaneous awards can be won simply by following the obvious as each award is titled:

The point of miscellaneous awards is to entail the absolute craziness that this adventure can entail. Thirty-five teams means 35 different experiences along the same route; we feel it is important to exploit each team and encourage spirit by awarding those that demonstrate the strongest point for each titled award (only qualified awards will be distributed, others may be added to accommodate other outstanding achievements):

Examples of Miscellaneous Awards to be given include:

Best Team Style
Sexiest Co-Driver
Cleanest Car
Dirtiest Car
Coolest Car
Most Expensive Ride
Most Powerful Car
Most Exotic Car
Most Exotic Team
Best Detonation
Chrome and Tow
Best Decision made
Worst Decision made
Best Gag
Safety

The Highest possible award to attain is the Spirit of the Dustball "Willie Williams" Award. For more detailed information on this, please view our sections on Spirit and Previous Winners under the main menu.

Join us on this adventure, we will show you how to make 12 months of memories through only two days of driving. We will introduce you to 70 other people that share this common interest, and you may become friends with. We will take you along an unforgettable route to an incomparable destination for the ultimate southwest roadtrip experience. This will be two great days that you will never forget...until next time...

Here's a video of last year. You don't see our blue GS400 very often but we learned a valuable lesson "If you want to make the video, don't out run the camera car".
