rear subframe bushings
Hello guys,
i'm new to the forum, sort of, i looked up a lot of stuff here but i never posted anything so hello everyone!
I own a lexus is220d, from what i undestrand is the same as a 250 but has a 2.2 diesel engine from some toyota models like the rav4 exc..
I noticed that on high speed the car is pretty unstable, feels like there is strong wind from the side. The car has around 270.000km (around 167.000mi) and i'm looking in replacing ALL the suspension stuff with OEM parts from impex japan but it will have to wait a little because it's expensive. BUT. because of the instability i looked under the car and i noticed that the rear subfame bushings move A LOT, basically it rotates completly like there is nothing holding it. I dont know if it's normal but from my mechanical experience, the hell no it's not. Unfortunately i dont have any way that i know to attach a video of it so you could see, but i guess you can imagine what i'm talking about.
I will replace everything i hope soon enough but it's over 2k euros worth of parts so i need some more time but i wanna know if i risk some huge damage in your opinion.
When i will do all the parts i will most likely record everything and post on youtube since i didnt see a single video of a complete suspension overhaul on a lexus is.
If i can add a question. Is it worth going from oem struts to coilovers? i cant find new oem struts in europe anywhere, only imported from japan or the uae but they cost around 1k euros + shipping and i dont think is worth it, nor i can find good replacements like bilstein, only the bad cheap crap like ridex and such that i dont wanna put in because i had bad experience (they lasted 20k km). I dont use the car on tracks obviously but i like to drive fast and to get to my house i have a lot od funny corners since is a mountain road. The roads in my country ain't the best, so the bumps and such are the main concern and i dont wanna spend a ton of money on coilovers or struts unless is really worth it.

I used to run the 6 point rear subframe braces on my GS400.

All rear subframes should have a large cup washer holding the bushings in place. Maybe check if the bolts are not torqued correctly.
